I know, a decade late--I didn't get a ps3 till a couple of years ago, me being hardcore into games is well in the past. I found the first three games for 5 bucks each after of course a decade of goodwill and such.
I'm barely into it and am kinda bored. I'm willing to bet I'm missing something as again I'm barely started; did anyone else experience a bit of boredom early on?

I got into it with Black Flag, which was fun from the get go. I didn't need to know any of the massive backstory either.
I went back later and played AC3, and that took a while to get going.

2 onwards are fun (3 is my favorite), but the first AC game is a slog. Not to say there isn't fun to be had, but it does get very boring at times.

you should've just skipped ahead to AC2. the original Assassin's Creed is fine, but the gameplay and story is very repetitive. 2 has a much better story, characters, setting, gameplay, etc.

The very first game in the series is arguably the worst one. The Ezio trilogy (AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations) is a LOT better both in terms of gameplay and in story and characters. AC4 is also a lot of fun. AC3 is a mixed bag. AC2 is one of the rare video game sequels that improves significantly on every single facet of its predecessor.
I'd love to see AC1 remade with AC2's gameplay improvements and the actor they got to voice Altair in Revelations (as the character in AC:R actually speaks with a Middle Eastern accent instead of a weirdly anachronistic American one; also helps that while still stoic, the voice has some life in it). It'd make for a much more fun game.

Ok glad to know it's not just me haha. Just this early on there's a lot of just aimlessly walking around and climbing shit to do one objective then repeat.

My first AC experience was Assassins Creed 2. I’m not a big gamer, but this will be a game I will play over and over until the day I die.

The first is very dull as it's very repetitive.
2 is where it gets good.
Assassins Creed 3 - Good but it takes a while to really get going Assassins Creed Black Flag - Excellent Assassins Creed Unity - Beautiful but bugged to hell and a meh story Assassins Creed Syndicate - Excellent, Love the option of 2 characters Assassins Creed Origins - Not bad
Not played Odyssey yet

I've begun to learn the mechanics better of what you need to do; so that's helped. You do wish there was like 2 viewpoints in a city rather than 9 or whatever.

Brotherhood is legitimately in my top 10 games of all time. And yeah, the first AC is....probably the worst one. Well, did they ever fix the buggy mess that was Unity?

AC2 would have likely been the main Game of the Year winner in 2009 if it wasn’t for Uncharted 2 also doing the whole, “sequel that drastically improved on the original in literally every way” thing, only better.

Either that or I got very lucky... I got into AC later on in my gaming “life”, so I played the game well after release and didn’t hit one single bug.

All of Unity's big bugs got fixed and they patched out the need for the companion app in order to get all the treasures in the game. It's quite a good game now. My only real complaint is that Elise isn't playable in even co-op, though at least the complaints of a lack of playable female character got us Evie Frye as a fully fleshed out character in Syndicate.

I still have a love for the first game. It's very bare bones but there's a certain fun in planning the assassinations that you don't get again until Syndicate. Plus the storytelling is fantastic. It does a great job of introducing the whole plot. Definitely one of the weaker ones but still a good game in my opinion.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the first game, because the locations are absolutely gorgeous, but I'll agree with everybody that said that the Ezio trilogy is AC at its height.
AC3 is definitely a mixed bag, the updated combat system took me a while to get into, but I really dug it once I adjusted.
AC4's setting is probably my favourite. Hopping around the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy? Yes please!
