Medaka Box.The Manga is amazing and the anime got cancelled at the moment the story goes from good to freaking amazing. NSFW-lots of blood. Kumagawa is one of THE best characters in manga,as a character and as a parody of overpowered enemies. Similarly, Deadman Wonderland is a great manga, and the anime ended halfway through the story, before they could get to the real underlying plot.

High School of the Dead
Their could have been a decent story if he actually decided to turn down the excessive fan service. Anime ended up on a cliffhanger and the manga had like 2 chapters in 3 years before he died I think like 2 years ago. The artist who worked with him said he wouldn’t finish the story after the author died so that’s done

Honestly, I don't think One Piece gets as much as love in the West as it should, especially in comparison to Naruto and Bleach.

It is long, yes, but there's other series out there even longer like Berserk, Hajime no Ippo, Detective Conan and the Gundam Universe. Also, the more unique character designs might have turned off people who wanted more conventional designs, or more Bishonen-types. Like, compare Sasuke.... to Blackbeard:

Really I think One Piece was just never going to catch on in the west. The initial dub certainly didn't help, but I really just don't think there's a huge market for its weird mashup of a tone or its art style. That Pirates of the Carribean and Assassin's Creed 4 are like the only pieces of pirate-themed media to really catch on in the past, like, 30 years or so doesn't help.

Honestly, I don't think One Piece gets as much as love in the West as it should, especially in comparison to Naruto and Bleach. One Piece in itself is very unique and the character designs itself could be a turn off depending on the viewer. Also in a sense, One Piece looks "kid friendly" and had that bad 4kids dub while Naruto and Bleach while having the same demographic, had a little more edge In regards to now, the biggest excuse how long the story is. Naruto was long too but kids more followed that from the beginning. One Piece has gotten its due as the years have gone on in the West but the biggest thing is the story and how itself now has become "hindrance" to people who have no interest in it. We know what Luffy wants but how long will it take to get there and where is the end goal. Considering the "first half" of One Piece took however many years, who is to say how long the 2nd half will take.

There is a few things as said that plays into why One Piece fell behind Bleach and Naruto One Piece is a good story but I would be lying if I say I didn't check out for a good few years before getting back to reading it. It hits the emotional beats, has the action, essentially all the stuff you want but the art style is different which could be a turn off for some

It is legit one of my favorites. the onlt awkward saga is one where the powers are based on japanese grammar. because it can be confusing if you are well..not japanese

I think OP’s GOAT candidacy status in Japan makes it not underrated regardless of perception abroad, but people not caught up will be surprised when they find out how close it is to the end game it is than it isn’t. As for underrated in general, I think Tekkon Kinkreet is underpraised as a movie, and while the first ep is absolute garbage, Gungrave turned out pretty sweet. I’d go for more but I think we’re talking anime and not manga.

I loved the hell out of Kore wa Zombie Desuka and Zetsubo Sensei. I don't hear those talked about much these days.

I loved the hell out of Kore wa Zombie Desuka I love it but I find it hard to recommend, given how the anime just kind of... stops without bothering to resolve its plot despite having a couple of opportunities to do so. I dunno if it was to promote the source material or if they were counting on a third season that didn't happen, feels like maybe a bit of both, but it is a black mark on it. Still, it's a hell of a lot of fun getting there.

The Laughing Salesman is a pretty interesting show about this demonic little guy in a suit making Faustian bargains with people. There was a remake that apparently performed badly commercially, which is odd seeing as the character seems to be fairly iconic in Japan.
I don’t know what the overall consensus on S-CRY-ed is, but I thought it was pretty fun.
Big O has a cult following to be sure, but it’s not talked about as much these days so I’ll give it a shoutout anyway.

I know Ranma 1/2 has a cult following. But that anime is a trendsetter. it made popular so many tropes.Definitely the best of its generation. It deserves to be spoken as one of the most influential anime of all times.

It combines jazz, film noir, and mecha with a deep, interesting plot that kinda went off the rails near the end. It took me a couple views for S-CRY-ed, but that one definitely is very underrated. And even though the entire franchise gets high praise, I feel MS Gundam: 08th MS Team and MS Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory are both underrated.

I’ve always been surprised that Ranma 1/2 wasn’t bigger in the west. It was the kind of show that would have fit right in on Toonami or Adult Swim, especially since the same woman who created it also created Inuyasha, which did air on them. Although it did still manage to gain a pretty sizable fandom in the fanfiction community, which is where I got my start in as well. The whole "Main Character gets turned into a Girl" probably was a turnoff given the controversial over transgender especially 25 years ago when it came out.
