Dude just doesn't believe he can beat JJ. Sucks for Santos. Not quite a career killer, but he won't be the same after completely shredding that knee.

Oh yeah I don't think he believes he can beat Bones plus the turmoil they had with each other in general I think has zapped whatever energy he may have had for a fight with Jones. His hatred for Bones doesn't fuel in a fighting sense on top of knowing he is outmatched anyway whether Jones juices or not Tho if Dana wants to pay him that money which he should since this is one of their big money fights then I can't see DC turning it down. Win or lose he finishes up with a paycheck

Win or lose he finishes up with a paycheck If he loses a third time, that puts even more of a hit on his legacy. But at the same time, I'm sure if you offered 98% of fighters a third shot at a guy who beat them twice, they'd still jump at the shot to get KO'd. Hell, I'm sure Cheal would fight Silva again for any amount of money. I'm torn between respecting DC for making a decidedly smart decision, and riding him for not being enough of a "fighter". It's dumb, I know.

I've seen 0 indication that DC doesn't think he can't beat Jones in any interview or media he's done. He recognizes that he doesn't need to fight Jones again because he already established his own legacy separate from Jones and was the first to do what Jones has never done in emphatic fashion. Now that he's 40 and recognizes that he's winding down he probably doesn't want to get caught in more Jones drama, because it's always something with Jones, but he still says he'd be willing to take the fight. He just doesn't need it like he used to. I'm not interested in it either. We know who wins that fight at 205 and Jones is too skittish about taking the risk of going up to HW which is the only interesting wrinkle they could add to a third fight.

It's dumb, I know. I think he deserves the benefit of doubt. He’s never been scared to fight Jon Jones but their history is very crazy and I think factors outside of fighting is taken into account. It’s mental as much as it is physical for DC and I can’t blame him for not wanting to deal with that if he doesn’t have to. I remember him breaking down crying when their 2nd fight got put on hold cause Bones got busted. When they seemingly buried the hatchet Jones got popped again for drugs which started this all over again. If they put Jon in front of him he’ll fight him most likely but he’s not interested in “creating” a fight with Jon because people are talking up a 3rd one. Bones has to come to HW to him essentially Like I said I can’t blame him because it’s not from a pure fighting perspective. People want DC to scream and holler he wants Bones for a 3rd fight but he’s more like nah it’s fine. I think losing that 2nd fight after Bones came back and him getting popped for drugs again really deflated DC and he’s done with it. Jon has been the demon in his career in what has turned into a stellar one

Yea pretty much what I just wrote. He doesn’t want that drama and to an extent Bones was a demon on DC career. He’s “grown” past the need to prove himself by beating Bones because he established his own HOF legacy. If Bones jumps to HW, I can see it happening but DC isn’t coming down to him

Jon has been the demon in his career in what has turned into a stellar one I don't think he's scared to fight Jones at all, I think he's resigned to the fact that Jones would probably win. It would be a circus just like the last one, no doubt. I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to do another media tour with/talking about Jones. But for so many fighters, it drives them nuts about that one guy they never got past. In a way, I admire DC for being able to move on. But in another way, I kinda wish he had that drive to climb that last mountain between him and maybe being the GOAT. And I love Cormier and I can't stand Jones.
