I wasn't fully vaccinated against things until I was 14 or so because my mother is anti-vax and my doctor insisted on it and my father agreed. Even now, despite my being 32, any time I mention my doctor says my Tetanus shot needs redone, she starts getting pissed off like she'd rather I get lockjaw than just have a simple shot. Don't do that to your kids, guys. Especially the adult ones.

I'm not going to vaccinate my kids.
I'd rather have a doctor do that, thank you.

Do people really get flu shots? I assumed that was an old people thing. I've never gotten one, but my wife does every year. My mom got one two years in a row and got the flu within a month both years. Hasn't done it since.

I wasn't saying I was anti flu shot I just don't know anyone who gets them other than my mother in law who is like 70.
I've never gotten one but I've had the flu like once in 15 years so it isn't really on my mind.

1. Do NOT call for the deaths of other people.
2. Do NOT call for illegal acts like kidnapping.
3. Do NOT post anti-vax propaganda here. That is one line I will not allow to be crossed. If you're anti-vax, keep your mouth shut and walk away from this thread.

It doesn't mean that you won't get the flu but it gives you a much better chance of being able to fight against the flu germs. Plus it's inexpensive (or free depending on where you go and your medical insurance coverage).

Plus it's inexpensive (or free depending on where you go and your medical insurance coverage). Additionally, if you come into contact with someone who has the flu, it ensures you won't be a carrier of it even if you're immune to it. Not getting an annual flu shot is irresponsible.

I absolutely DON'T believe vaccines cause autism and it's a silly notion, but my vaccines did give infant me a seizure, so I didn't get all of them like intended.
I still think vaccines are important and most people who get them are just fine, but I kinda get very "ehhhhhhhhhhh" whenever people aggressively act as though there's absolutely no risk and nothing to fear. Is that, like... okay of me...? It's ultimately a touchy subject for me because of my personal experience.

I get a flu shot every year because people seriously underestimate how dangerous a lot of strains of influenza viruses can be, especially to people with weaker immune systems.

That's a really good point. Also, I'd rather get a little shot in the arm than feel miserable for like a week+ with a nasty flu that knocks me out.

Then what is the point of this thread if we are deliberately and intentionally censoring the other side of the conversation? Just to shame and mock people we disagree with? How does one sided conversation contribute to constructive discussion? I don’t even have a dog in this race but I don’t like preventing other people from speaking (even if I disagree with them) over some morally narcissistic tribalism. What does it say about us If we aren’t adult enough to let people speak but are just childish enough to have a one sided shame fest of a thread.

It says it's his board.
Plus, there's not REALLY "another side to the argument" any more than there would be of one disgraced doctor said gravity didn't really exist.
Madison will have to back this up, but likely one of the main reasons he doesn't want anti-vax kookiness showing up in here is any chance of this place inadvertently getting associated with said anti-vax kookiness. Be the same for any other dopey conspiracy nonsense.

The following particular logic train of Anti-Vax really burns my ass -
Now mind you, the logic requires that we pretend vaccines can cause autism : "I'd rather my kid have a good chance of death than a slight chance of autism." Which when you boil it down greatly is "Death is preferable to autism for my child".

If you’re anti-vaccination, you’re just wrong. Full-stop. If I say 2+2=4 and someone says 2+2=5, it isn’t an argument with two sides. One answer is just wrong. People who are anti-vaccination should not be given a platform to spread their dangerous ignorance. If they insist on doing so in places where they have a legal right to do so, they should be mocked and ridiculed every single time. They’re putting defenseless children in danger, allowing eradicated diseases to return, and basically saddling up with one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

They’re putting defenseless children in danger, allowing eradicated diseases to return, and basically saddling up with one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. You’re missing the point. Never did I said they were right. To be crystal clear : I am neither for or against ANY SIDE Just that they, like anyone else no matter how wrong , have the right to speak. You want people to know they are wrong, let them speak so everyone can hear them and counter their points immediately. That way anyone who should happen to see or hear this conversation sees both sides presented, with whatever information is laid out. At least then they can see for themselves which argument stands up to scrutiny and move on. The only thing accomplished by telling someone to shut their mouth and leave is an echo chamber. And yes it is possible to have an echo chamber even if you are right. De-platforming only serves to tell people not informed or involved on or in the discussion that the people doing the de-platforming have no legitimate principled opposition and only helps the ones censored look legitimate in comparison (because if an argument is so easy to dismiss than you would have no need to censor in the first place). Did we not learn anything from the Streisand effect?
