The event everyone’s going to be talking about in August is DDT having Chair vs. Chair on August 12, the chairs chosen by DDT’s mascot Pokotan. Because it’s Japan and everyone has a mascot. twitter.com/dramaticddt/status/1153625771405172737?s=21I want to one day have the pure concentrated dumb joy that the DDT bookers have in their lives. Even for a second.

Well, after the Cask vs. Cask match, they had to settle the score somehow.

I know some people that just recently got back into wrestling because of DDT and its focus on over-the-top gimmicks since that's what they liked about early 90s WWE.

For anyone who doesn’t know, Pokotan was originally created by Dieno to cash in on the mascot craze as a money making scheme. It failed horribly when his head got knocked off in his first match. Pokotan now frequently gets “accidentally” unmasked in matches as someone who shocks and throws off their opponent. I recommend people check out two matches from this month’s Peter Pan,Akito vs. ASUKA (not wwe) lighttube match (not what it sounds like) as a mix of great wrestling and comedy—ASUKA challenges Akito to a blood feud match, Akito says a lighttube death match. ASUKA is ecstatic and says “how many? 100, 200?” Akiyo says just one. The entire match is that whoever breaks the tube loses, it’s amazing crowd reaction and shows off how great they are to pull off moves while keeping the tube intact. The main event, Tetsuya Endo vs Konosuke Takeshita is a bit over the top, but it’s the perfect example of how the company also has serious wrestling and motyc type matches (I wouldn’t put it there but people who like NJPW epics will dig it) You can also listen to Yuka Sakazaki’s great commentary on the preshow. streamable.com/x48h7

Welp, move over Invisible Man vs. Invisible Stan, we might have a new MOTY.
