Oddly enough, I think that if this happened today it wouldn't have been nearly as big of a deal. Sure it would have been a social media storm for a couple of days, but it would have blown over pretty quickly. Matt probably would have just been sent home until he cooled off or his contracted expired, but everyone would have moved on.

This. I’m surprised by the responses here from people saying they sympathised with the cheaters against the guy with a legitimate grievance because.... he was too vocal about it, I guess? Never mind that he had actually been fired for having the temerity to be upset. Firstly, cheating is a symptom, not the problem itself. You don't cheat for no reason. Not that I am in any way saying that Matt is to blame, just stating from the off that my attitude towards the fidelity of other people may be an outlier. Secondly, Matt was bringing his personal life into work long before it was made into an angle. This was a shoot that was turned into a work. Wrestling is full of main event cheaters, these ones had the nerve to get caught. I wasn't watching at the time, and my hindsight view is that it sucks that Matt got betrayed, but his behaviour afterwards was pretty disgraceful. Outside of the affair itself, Lita an Edge pretty much didn't put a foot wrong. Edge and Lita have also always been contrite in accepting their fault in this too. Any time it's brought up, they know they were wrong and regretted how they handled the situation.

I mean in terms of on screen talent their was that whole thing a few months with Carmella and Corey Graves and people trying to get up his ass about cheating on his wife and then come to find out him and his wife had been separated for some time

Man, after watching the video, I went and rewatched the Unforgiven Cage match. I totally forgot how damn good that was. That match should have made Hardy a star.

I still think Matt could have been a bigger deal if he was written better. I did a fantasy booking in my head of his return. What actually happened was: Vince comes out and introduces him, and they shake hands and Vince leaves. It was stupid because of him being fired in the first place. What I wish had happened was: Vince comes out, introduces Matt, Matt goes to shake his hand and hits him with a Twist of Fate, spits on him, and walks out. He would've been made after that. Yeah it's a bit Stone Cold, but it would have worked a million times better than what they did on top of making a TON more sense story wise. When Matt came back after being fired and shook hands with Vince was that rumoured to be Brock returning aswell or am I mistaking that for another time?

Man that entire thing made me hate Edge lol. I felt so bad for Matt. This. Never mind that he had actually been fired for having the temerity to be upset. Because a lot of shit came out that hinted that Matt and Lita's relationship was more open than initially portrayed and that he was verbally abusive to her.

Extrapolating quite a bit there, and I think that’s not a very good pretense for assuming that Edge and Lita had the moral high ground. What sn’t disputed is that Matt and Lita has at least a semblance of a relationship, Lita sought extracurricular fun, when Matt didn’t like it he complained and lost his job. I think the guy absolutely had a right to be upset.

When he was out with injuries, he was upset that Lita continued. Extrapolating a bit? Maybe, but honestly I don't particularly care either way. Probably shouldn't even bothered to respond to you in the first place because, frankly, I don't know them, don't particularly feel bad about anyone in the situation, and arguing morality with someone online isn't my bag.

Never mind that he had actually been fired for having the temerity to be upset. The firing I was sympathetic to, and him getting cheating on sucked; but I'm one of the people that thought he handled it about as badly as one could. Going online with it, calling into WWE shows to snark at Lots on-air, and just generally acting like a high school kid instead of a grown man soured much of my sympathy. Then he got creepy with it, trashing a cardboard cutout of Lots and that sort of thing. One can be heartbroken without just being a complete douche. For me at least, dude burned through any goodwill for being cheated on/fired QUICKLY. Glad all involved made it through that and are in better places now. *Lots...Lita ya silly auto correct.

Even if Matt and Lita's relationship was an open one, Edge and Lita still had no moral high ground whatsoever.

According to Matt he said the affair with Lita and Edge was more of a mental one than anything else. I fully believe it was a one time deal and Edge couldn't let it go whereas Lita was attempting to find a way to move on from both men.

Matt probably would have just been sent home until he cooled off or his contracted expired, but everyone would have moved on. It'd probably depend a lot on the players involved and the circumstances. Like, if Mikaze cheated on Sasha with Dana Brooke or something random like that? It'd be talked about and blow up, but it'd blow over a lot faster than Matt/Lita/Edge did. If Triple H cheated on Steph and fans found out due to some kind of soap opera shit? Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
