Bruno was used as a draw to older fans at the box office and to put over up and coming stars......... so let's announce him 6 days before SummerSlam and give him a match with a midcarder no1curr's about anymore who has been with the company for 15 years. Idk. This match has me interested in Ziggles for the first time in a while. So I’d say it’s working.

Paul Heyman the PRO WRESTLING GENIUS I mean... don't forget on top of this like Goldbergs only real appeal is squashing people... not having long matches and putting people over.

Paul Heyman the PRO WRESTLING GENIUS I was ready to blame Vince for this. I am EXTREMELY (see what I did there) disappointed that this is a Heyman idea. If Heyman wants to bring back a nostalgia act with zero wrestling ability to beat the hell out of Dolph I'd much rather have Paul bring back Sandman to bludgeon Dolph with a kendo stick.

Shame he can't just randomly show up on the weekly shows and squash some midtier heel that's getting too cocky, just once or twice a year.
Basically like the time he squashed Rodney Mack.

Interesting. I must say, I find Heyman's fascination/admiration with Goldberg interesting. It's a real thing, not just some writer coming up with an idea for the TV product.....Heyman clearly legit likes the guy. As someone who wasn't even born then (early 80s?!), can someone explain this to me? How was Bruno in the early 80s compared to how he's always been perceived? He was mostly used for live events and some TV tapings as a special attraction. He had some good matches with Piper and Savage that helped put them over, only downside was when he was involved with his son David. And ultimately, his departure from the WWF was because Vince wasn't that crazy about giving David a big spot like Bruno wanted.

I prefer to see it as a direct challenge to Bischoff's reign as head of SDLive, and furtively at Bischoff's reign in WCW-- "This is how you book Goldberg correctly, sir!" Let the Brand Rivalry begin anew!

Remember when Paul Heyman was vehemently against past their prime talent hogging the spotlight, and wanted talent over a certain age gone in general?
I said back when he was talking about his supposed plans for TNA that what Heyman says when trying to get fans /talent onside and what he does are often worlds apart, and here we are.

Yeah i’m pretty excited to watch Ziggler get destroyed by Goldberg.
Just make Goldberg the new 911, come out and destroy every boring as hell tired act on the card sporadically.

Heyman's always used nostalgia acts. Terry Funk being the most noticable in ECW, he used him to enhance Douglas, Raven and Sabu, he pushed Hulk Hogan to enhance Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar, he booked Dusty Rhodes and Jake the Snake in ECW too, all to enhance other guys. He's never used them in positions where they've worn out their welcome. Every match with them meant something.

He also had guys ranting about how WCW's old guard held them back, and declared that he would cut the head off anyone over 40 in his grand plan for TNA. He's pro youth when talking about his plans from the outside, but on the inside of a major promotion he'd put a bucket of grave dust out there to wrestle if he thought he could get some mileage out of doing so.

I mean, he only really said that last bit because he knew full well Dixie would say no to it considering how many 40+ year olds were on the roster at the time. That entire plan was basically him saying "Let me figure out the easiest way to get Dixie Carter to stop this whole process".

Yeah, basically his next demand to make Dixie go away would have been a controlling share in Panda Energy.

Goldberg as a mentor for Braun, eventually turning on Braun in fear of losing his spot, is a story I'd like to see.

I don't mind this at all.... as long as he isn't matched with UT ever again. LOL I actually like Goldberg now (his last run with Goldberg... not counting the Taker match) much more than I did in his original run. I like him as an old badass.

He actually said he’d fire all but one or two 40+. Use one to build up new stars, Kurt Angle at the time, and if you have the right guy use one as that occasional mid card ass whopping to boost ticket sales or pop a rating. He’s never once said older stars have no value, just that you need to know how to use them effectively or you’re just kneecapping the younger talent.

Bruno wrestling those 80's shows at MSG were still hyped pretty heavily locally. Bruno was a god in MSG. He was just as big then to that crowd as Hulk, Andre, & Piper were.
