Wrestler is being pinned. Ref counts 1, then 2 and as his hand is coming down for three, the pinned wrestler suddenly reaches out and either grabs the refs arm to keep it from touching the mat; or, sliding their own hand underneath the ref's and "catching" it from striking the mat?

It sounds like something I’ve seen on the indies, but damn if I can name a specific match.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this done in a multi-man match where a third party grabs the refs hand and stops the count. In a one on one match, why would risk a DQ for touching the ref when about the same level of energy exertion could allow for a kickout?

I feel like I have seen this before, but which specific match I saw it in, I can't remember. I feel like it was maybe in a TNA/Impact Wrestling match.

Couldn't tell you what match but I'm pretty certain someone in WWE has done this within last 2 years.

Juice Robinson just did something sort of along these lines, having his arm lifted while trapped in an STF, and grabbing the referee to not let his arm drop, preventing being TKO'd.

I now remember that Rush did this in a match in CMLL, but who was in the match, I can't remember (my mind is saying it was one of the L.A. Park matches, whether singles or tags, I'm not sure).

I mean... I could see it. But logically, why would he go through all the trouble of catching the refs hand instead of just lifting his shoulder off the mat?

Why do wrestlers do half the shit they do when there's easier ways? And maybe they're pinned in a way they have movement of the arm but not leverage to lift the shoulder.

Yeah in fairness, most of the stuff doesn’t make sense anyway. So why not? I could see the crowd popping for this. Especially if he took a hell of a beating and then caught the hand out of nowhere lol.

I like the idea, but I see 2 problems with it:
1. If they reach up to grab the arm/hand, then their shoulder is most likely already off the mat, thus making the grab superfluous
2. If all they do is slide their hand under to stop the count, they haven't actually broken the pin because you have to raise the shoulder

This makes no sense. If he's able to hold on to the ref, he would be able to keep his arm up. I always understood the "arm drop" as a test if somebody's still conscious.

Some of you are serious buzzkills who pick the weirdest times to start trying to apply logic and physics to f***ing pro wrestling.

Sure sounds like grounds for a DQ.

Something very similar happened at NXT Takeover Toronto in the North American Championship
