Man, it's such bullshit Chris Hero and/or Claudio never held it.
Hmm, Samoa Joe's probably my number one, followed by Danielson, but not sure what else. I'd also have Morishima on my list somewhere. I'll have to think it over.

1) Bryan Danielson - I thought this over for a bit. It was very tough to put Bryan over Joe, but I think Bryan had the more classic matches and the company was on absolute fire during his reign. 2) Samoa Joe - If he's not 1 for me, then he has to be 2. Basically, 1a. Such a great reign. Some great matches and really put the title on the map. 3) CM Punk. He didn't hold it for long, but my god - what a fun reign. His title win and aftermath is one of my favorite moments in wrestling. For real. Just absolutely loved what he did in the Summer of Punk. 4) Nigel McGuinness - It got off to a rough start and went a little too long, but for a good while there, Nigel really developed as a strong character and was pumping out great matches. 5) Austin Aries - His first win is super memorable and it was followed by a pretty decent reign. His second reign was also quite strong and he did a good job of having good matches during a transition period in the company.
Notable Mentions - Takeshi Morishima and Kevin Steen. Enjoyed both a lot.

Pretty sure they meant Jay Lethal. Nobody dares admitting to being a Jay Briscoe fan on this board for fear of possibly being exiled from the forum.

Unpopular opinion, Morishima's reign sucked and drug on way too long. Until Matt Taven's current reign of ter, er, current reign of crap, Morishima was my least favorite Champion ever. Yes worse then Xavier. While admittedly Xavier should have never been champion and I will never understand why he was, something about Morishima never clicked for me. I couldn't wait till he lost the title.

1. Joe - established the title 2. Danielson - arguably the greatest title reign 3. Aries - took the ball from Joe and kept it going strong 4. Steen - re-elevated the title after Davey's lackluster run where he was constantly either in tag matches or wrestling for another promotion (in his first six months as champion, Davey had a total of 8 title defenses, but only 3 were on actual ROH shows) 5. Cole - first reign took him from rising star on the indies to being one of the top guys
Honorable mentions: CM Punk - Summer of Punk (duh) Christopher Daniels - him finally winning was without a doubt the most emotional title change

5. Nigel McGuinness - The first few months tread water a little bit from a story perspective, but once he fully goes heel it's good stuff. 4. CM Punk - Arguably the best storyline a champion in ROH's ever had. 3. Takeshi Morishima - Always loved Mori's work. Feel like he's kind of underrated and underappreciated by the American fans even now. 2. Bryan Danielson - The new gold standard. 1. Samoa Joe - The old gold standard.
My main gripe with longer reigns in ROH is that they usually plodded along for the first few months. Even Joe's struggled to find a narrative until the Homicide feud and the Punk trilogy.
Special shout-out to Homicide. His title loss was brilliantly booked but damn if I didn't wish he got a longer run before it happened or got a second go at the belt.
One for Steen too. That was probably the last time the ROH title was relevant in the macro of indie wrestling and had some legitimate buzz behind it. Since then it's been on a downward slope with the rest of ROH (regardless of the match quality champions like Daniels and Lethal were producing).

1. Samoa Joe-He set the standard, long dominant title reign which got ROH on the map,IMO.
2. Bryan Danielson-Took the ball and ran with it, much like Joe defending all over the world and had a solid title run.
3. CM Punk-I was glad to see the title win live and some of his heel run live in NYC, the Summer of Punk was the best storyline I'd see in ROH, IMO.
4. Austin Aries-Had a good run with the title, got to see him win it in Philly and the place exploded, had stellar matches with Punk, Shelley, Homicide, Bryan, Joe, etc.
5. Homicide-Had a short run but glad he finally got it for his years of hard work there in ROH.
