Hey, everyone. Last yeah, I finally decided to check Down the Rabbit Hole after the TempleOS episode was released and I fell in love with it, so I as curious if you guys knew of similar YouTube channels, or even websites, blogs, etc... that did similar things. The main appeal to me is how it mostly keeps an objective POV and tends to stick to the facts, while also frequently bringing up details, background and context that many other people who cover the same topics missed. I've found some other channels that are vaguely similar, such as Nexpo or Internet Historian, but so far none of them reach the quality of research that DtRH has, and they usually try a bit too hard to be dramatic, IMO, especially when they cover creepy topics. Also, most if not all of them seem to focus almost exclusively on Internet culture, whereas DtRH, while still frequently discussing it, has a much wider variety of topics.
So far, I think my favourite alternative I've found is Whang! (and yes, that's his real family name, apparently, he's not being childish). Again, as far as I recall, he exclusively focuses on Internet stories, but I appreciate that he often covers relatively obscure topics rather than just the most obvious ones, does a great job of summing it up in a simple way without removing important details, and again, usually keeps a somewhat objective tone, even though he usually gives his two cents at the end of an episode. Plus, I really like that he always provides updates when new information about the topics he's covered turns up.
So do you guys know of anything that might satiate my curiosity? I'm especially interested in weird and/or dark topics, but it doesn't have to be just that as long as it's presented in an interesting manner and is well researched (after all, even when it comes DtRH, despite being best known for it's darker topics, about half of the episodes are on perfectly mundane subjects). Remember, it doesn't jave to be just YT channels either.

Oddity Archive. I happen to be a good friend with the creator, and his videos are always engaging. Covering subjects that I didn’t even know I would be interested in. And its around the concept of broadcasting oddities and musical oddities.

Reignbot covers some rather dark topics, and while they are often internet/YouTube based, she does delve into some interesting obscure online phenomenon.

Internet Historian has a much more humorous bent but covers similar types of stories.
And yeah, Whang is pretty great.
Edit: And see you mentioned Internet Historian so nevermind.

I guess could half-suggest The Right Opinion. I'm not a gigantic fan of him mostly since I by and large don't really care about his subject matter - tends to look at random Youtube drama - but he's an okay time-killer if you have no better options because he tends to be thorough and while he's usually looking to make some degree of a point, he usually is pretty even-handed and direct with it.

I’m always leery with these kinds of channels that they’ll veer into exploitation with their subjects and it becomes a “let’s laugh at mentally ill” people kind of thing. Down the Rabbit Hole is one of the few that doesn’t cross over that line so I would be interested in similarly toned shows as well.

Hey, thanks for randomly necro-ing the thread, devilfish ! Looks like it actually got some attention this time. I am subscribed to Oddity Archive, though I must confess it's been a while since I actually watche dan episode. Might want to get back into it. Reignbot covers some rather dark topics, and while they are often internet/YouTube based, she does delve into some interesting obscure online phenomenon. Yeah, recently discovered her channel and can confirm, ReignBot is great. I especially like that unlike most similar channels, she usually keeps her head cool and gives rational explanations priority. She even occasionally calls out people who immediately go for "it must be supernatural / a cult / terrorist / a pedo ring / a snuff ring" when there is no indication of such a thing, or those who blindly believe believe any story they read on Reddit, as well as those who have a worrisome tendency to believe that ARGs and webseries that are clearly not meant to be taken as genuine are exactly that (or alternately, those who call "FAKE!!" at things that, again, were clearly not meant to be passed as genuine). Looks interesting, will be checking it out. Thanks for the suggestion! Oh and I found another one for y'all called Atrocity Guide (which is a bit of a misnomer as the stories she covers aren't necessarily dark ones. She's a relative newcomer and deserves more love (some of her vids have actually been pretty big hits, but most of them remain relatively obscure). She covers a lot of bizarre topics (and not exclusively Internet-related ones) and seems to be doing a good job of researching them: www.youtube.com/channel/UCn8OYopT9e8tng-CGEWzfmw/videos .

Dude somehow made both Chris Chan and Darksyde Phil come off as somewhat sympathetic.
