Didn't this thread already happen? Considering I just noticed a thread with the same title by someone with the same username on a different forum, I'm guessing they're doing it everywhere. ...wow, that little nugget of information just send me down a rabbit hole I wasn't ready for.

Visiting the US I can not claim to have experienced that many differences between the yanks and the rebels.

My roommates are southerners that moved north. They're decent folks.

I've spent time in New Orleans, Virginia and Atlanta, and have a number of friends who are confessed "proud Arizona rednecks". I cant say my experiences with the people there have been all that much different from those I had when in New Jersey, New York, and California.

I grew up on the MS gulf coast, born in Biloxi and raised right outside Moss Point. It wasn't until I moved to Brookhaven,a tiny town about an hour south of Jackson, that I started seeing living examples of all the southern stereotypes. Really the south has it's good and bad points. THe food is great. Lots of the time the people are very friendly. It is fairly cheap to live in the south. Bad things are the heat and 10 months of summer. And now sadly the inbred racists think they have free reign. Had more than a few encounters with them when I was out with my girlfriend. All cause she is part Asian. But it is these same small minded f***tards that will claim to be "Good Christians" then in the next sentence talk about how they hate anyone that isn't white straight and Christian.

The major southern cities are as cosmopolitan as any northern city. There's a lot of backwards folks out in the sticks, but I've seen more than my fair share of backwards folks in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, too. It isn't endemic to any one region of the country.

Western New Jersey outside of the Philly suburbs is uh, it's an adventure. Especially the northwestern and southwestern tips of the state. And of course there's the Pine Barrens, too.

Heard sodas called Coke Soda water Only time I heard anyone call them sodie was this really old guy at a family reunion. Here in NE Arkansas, that's what almost everybody calls them. Even my (now ex) wife starting calling them that after she moved down here from Massachusetts. I lived there for eight years, and heard a few New Englanders use the term. It's fun to say "sodie" when you're baked!

Like you goto a fast food place,"I wanna large coke" then the cashier will ask you what flavor. I am guessing that is maybe because of Coke being invented in Georgia. No clue where Pepsi was invented. But I have never cared for Pepsi. It is way too sweet for me.

Grew up in Minnesota, moved to Texas right before my teens. The culture(and the weather) is very different but I fit in pretty good now as an adult and I love it here.
It's funny, I lost my midwestern accent. Plus, my brother who still lives up north finds it hilarious when I drop a "y'all" in my sentences.

Like what kind of drink do you want is how it normally goes.

If you're looking for advice on a specific city or town you will be moving to or visiting, that's fine. This thread was designed for other purposes and it's not to be repeated on our forums.
