Every time I go to a concert, I can never decide if I should be playing all the music I have from the artist in question or try to avoid it. On the one hand, it prepares me if the pull out an obscure track from their old stuff, but on the other, i may discover that I don't like a song right before I'm about to hear it live. How do you handle the situation?

Considering all the artists I like are mostly dead, I don’t make many concerts. Though after going to Aerosmith and them not playing Dude (Looks like a Lady) I listened on the way home. I had a hankering.

If it's a band with a large enough catalog I might listen to a bunch of their songs I KNOW they're probably not going to play that night

NO! On the way home, but not on the way to the show.

It depends. If I am going to a concert with my lady and it is a band she isn't familiar with I will play some of their music on the way to the show.

I say no. Don't see the point of listening to songs you're about to hear again live.
But as stated, if somebody isn't familiar, go for it. My friends and I are usually too busy talking about what we hope happens on the way there, and what we liked or didn't like on the way home.

If I want to listen to an artist on the way to their show, I'm gonna listen to an artist on the way to their show. If I don't, I won't.
Don't listen to an artist on the way to a concert, don't wear their shirt at their show, don't do this, don't do that. All these "rules" for going to a concert are assy and ridiculous. You do you and screw everything else. FFS.

the radio station I listen to tends to play a lot of whatever band's coming to town-- of course that's because people call in and request them. It's when I leave the concert and they're playing another block of music from the bands I just saw that it gets kinda annoying, haha.

I pretty much always listen to the band I'm about to see on the way there. I don't care if I am about to hear the same songs live. If I like the band enough to pay to see them, then I like them enough to hear their same songs a couple times within a few hours.

I probably wouldn't because for me personally, I'd be more hyped if I avoided listening to them. I guess it's like when you don't eat much on the day you're going out for a big meal.
Fwiw I don't go to many concerts though so it would be a big deal to me.

Well, it’s about a 3 hour ride to Winnipeg which is where I normally have to go for a concert, so it really depends on the artist. If it’s a band with only 1 or 2 albums under their belt probably not because you’ll probably hear the entire playlist on the drive, but a band with a big catalogue I’ll usually listen to some of their more obscure stuff to get me pumped for the show

I don't do it because I don't want to be sick of the artist by the time I get to the concert.

I didn't know I wasn't allowed to be exasperated with the rules I always hear about concert going, though.

I prefer not to. I’d rather just hear them live. If it’s a band I’m not familiar with then sure. I’d like to hear some of their music to familiarize myself with what I’d be hearing.

Generally not. The last band I saw live was Slayer and I listened to all of their albums in the lead up to the gig but travelling to Newcastle for the weekend I made a playlist with no Slayer songs on it just to save it for the concert.
And it’s probably the best concert I’ve ever seen. Blasted Slayer songs on my way home as loud as was acceptable.
