Speaking on the NJPW/CMLL portion of this situation, the first crack in their relationship was pretty much ignored at the time. Depending on who you want to believe, both sides clashed over Kawato's treatment during his time in Mexico for different reasons. New Japan felt that CMLL wasn't giving Kawato the same level of training and spotlight provided to previous juniors sent on excursion (ex. Hiromu, SHO & YOH). CMLL complained to the Japanese that Kawato was not taking his training seriously, and even wanted to send him back to Japan early to be rid of him. From a third-party perspective, Kawato didn't improve at all in Mexico. Which is unfortunate, since his potential was super high during his last half-year in Japan. Whatever the case, New Japan choosing to send their next junior prospect in Narita to the LA Dojo instead of CMLL feels like the fallout from the Kawato situation. Kawato had gotten real good and adaptive to the Lucha style the past half year before this illness he had gotten, having had a great match with Audaz.
On a whole, many like cubsfan claim that CMLL is an unambitious and unmotivated promotion that only puts out the bare minimum for shows. They have no ongoing storylines or feuds and multiple titles that are worthless. They seem to have no desire to make the product worthwhile watching and following. As well as having xenophobic and hostile out of touch crowds even more so than AAA.
Multiple talent have left recently or planning on leaving and the rumors say guys are publicly denouncing the company and are unhappy. And when you got people like Tirantes who makes it clear he's going into business for himself at the first opportunity who could blame them?

That's a good point, although I think a lot of it is simply because NJPW is very focused on bringing the LA Dojo to prominence, so there is naturally going to be fewer excursion to North American partners like CMLL and ROH because of it. Doing so puts the company more in direct communications with their own team and allows them to control how they're used. The problem is that the people on excursion aren't really learning how to wrestle different styles if they end up going into the LA Dojo more, so I think there's definitely value in keeping the alliances in place.

To add to this mess, both Rush/Toro Blanco and LA Park are siding with Sofia Alonso, hinting she got bumped out of power by one of the uncles.
It almost feels like it could turn into an inverse AJPW/NOAH situation, where instead of the remaining relative being in charge causing a splinter, the relative not being in charge could cause a splinter promotion.

On top of all of this, wasn't there scuttlebutt recently that WWE was looking to add CMLL footage to the Network? If there's any truth to CMLL taking such an offer seriously, then it's kind of incredible how much of the wrestling world might potentially be upended by all of this.

RUSH and Lee are booked for The Crash on November 1st vs. The Lucha Bros., which basically confirms Lee won't be taking part in New Japan's Super Jr. Tag League as originally planned. I'm assuming the CMLL team will now be some combination of Volador/Titan/Soberano.
Doesn't necessarily mean Lee won't be part of New Japan in the future, but with the flow of JTL->WTL->WK->FM, it might be a while.

CMLL is ordering other promotions to not use Dragon Lee or Rush if they want CMLL talents on there.
The Crash has refused to do so

Wonder if it makes CMLL any more incensed that not only did Dragon Lee disobey them and take part in BOLA, it was also very well received, earning him another 5 star match. Just another pinch of salt to go on the wound.
Gotta imagine that ROH is going to have to tell CMLL to get bent, given they can't just not use their champion, but I wonder if NJPW will call their bluff and use Dragon Lee. They can wait for now, but they'll have to make that decision eventually, especially for when Takahashi's back.
