That sounds like an insane title doesn't it? Duh ya might say. Well what I mean is, watching AEW last night it struck me how over the entire show was. It was like something in 1999. So often you hear: "fans are never happy.." as a brush off of any criticism.
Clearly that's not so. People like wrestling. They WANT to cheer something they like. They're begging for it.
If you give them a product they like, they're All In (awful pun fully intended).
Can you chalk some of it up to novelty and new car smell and maybe a bit of the bubbly?
Sure, but one thing is clear. People like wrestling. They WANT to like shows.

Amazing what happens when you book shows to entertain the crowds instead of just one 74 year old.

I absolutely chalk it up to “new car” smell but familiarity breeds contempt especially if you’re familiarized as f*** for a while.

I think wrestling fans can become so self-loathing through various reasons, they became utterly convinced wrestling was niche to the point of irrelevance, that wrestling would never get much love again, despite it being very clear that wrestling never really went away, exactly. It just wasn't really reaching people outside of those invested in wrestling already, barring occasional memes like "HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA!!!!" or a clip or two making waves. This is changing, and I think that's invigorating even for people who were already fans.

I didn't think it was going to happen THIS soon, but much like the Monday Night Wars brought wrestling to new heights during the Attitude Era, the Wednesday Night Wars are already making wrestling seem like it's... dare I say it... 'cool' to watch wrestling again. Hell, even The Rock is coming back and he's arguably the biggest draw ever in the history of the sport, and arguably the biggest box office draw in the world.
This is just the FIRST WEEK of the new war, guys. Well played, Khans. Well played, McMahons.

On one episode of OSW, they're reviewing a match and V1 goes off on a brief rant about how easy it would be to get both guys more over by having one of them job rather than neither one of them winning, and then he just kind of shouts 'WRESTLING IS EASY.'
It's obviously not easy, but it is so much easier than it's made out to be.
Like, we want good wrestling and for you to push the people we cheer. It's really not rocket science, and we're so used to promoters saying 'no, it's the children who are wrong. Here's Greg Gagne' that it's actually surprising to see a wrestling show written to please people.
I feel the same when I watch indie shows. They just... want fans to enjoy themselves, rather than solely push their own narrative. It tells you a lot about indoctrinated I've been by years of WWE propaganda that I still find it utterly baffling when a wrestling show does stuff I actually want to see.
