Maybe Coppola and Gilliam are just jealous because none them seem to be troubled productions

...Gillam knows Wakanda isn't supposed to be an actual place, yeah? It's a hyper-idealized civilization with advanced technology. That's like getting mad that a movie set in "the near future" has technology that won't realistically be invented for another few decades, if that.

I think at this point, it's fairly safe to say that if any former member of Monty Python gives their opinion on anything in the present day, it'll either be incredibly out of touch, wrongheaded or self serving. Talented people to be sure, but septuagenarians who've spent decades being told how smart and funny they are and have a worldview and opinions to match.

So a director who makes films that "make you think and look at the world in a different way, hopefully, and consider possibilities" is upset that Wakanda doesn't really look like Africa. Okay.
Considering he's made a career doing fantasy films, this pretty much makes him a hypocrite.

I feel the only appropriate response to Mr. Gilliam's statements are "okay Boomer".

The Caribbean? Yeah, not what I'd call in with the times.

Oh good, now this has somehow devolved into old white guys trying to tell black people what they should and shouldn't like.

So for gilliam a white british dude selling wakanda as a possiblity for black kids is bullshit
Like of all the hot takes from scared white men that is one of the worst.
James Cameron sucks now.
Avatar 2 will fail at the box office
Scorsese has made shitty movies.
But this anger towards comic book movies by movie snobs and comic snobs. Asking for the bubble to burst.
It is hilarious.
I hope comic book movie and tv continues to improve
