OK for real, am I the only person who actually liked Last Jedi or something? I really dug it, honestly. It's one of the few times the Force felt appropriately f***ing weird since Dagobah in Return of the Jedi.

Looks like the slot opened up by their departure is being filled after all.

Looks like the slot opened up by their departure is being filled after all. Dave Filoni has been a driving force of good Star Wars content for eons. Just put him in charge of the property carte-blanche. Also, are we really still pretending Rian Johnson is ever touching Star Wars again?

As much as I would love a trilogy done by him, honestly it feels like they're grooming Filoni to take over for Kennedy when she retires and essentially become the Star Wars answer to what Feige is for the MCU. If you've noticed (I know I have), pretty much everything Star Wars related post-Disney buyout that isn't the sequel trilogy has had Filoni involved in some capacity. Which if that's the case, I'd be perfectly cool with that. He was not only taught by Lucas, but he seems to have a better understanding of the Star Wars universe than Lucas even did by the prequel trilogy and a lot of the core of his works really carry with them that feeling of the original trilogy. Especially how he treats the Force (something I think the sequel trilogy's done well too, but Filoni was doing it first).

I’m glad it’s not Rian. I’ve wanted Favreau to direct a Star Wars film for years. Him or Brad Bird. I’m also excited for Feige’s thing whenever it happens to happen.

Also, are we really still pretending Rian Johnson is ever touching Star Wars again? Until LucasFilm confirm he's gone the way they have with literally every director they've parted ways with, it's reasonable to assume he's still on board.

If Filoni takes over from Kathleen Kennedy as rumored, anything Rian Johnson is toast. Dave won't even talk about Episode 8, and a lot of his close Star Wars collaborators like Sam Witwer basically dance around saying "I hate it".

I wish they'd wait until at least 2025 or so to start another saga. I feel like the main canon saga movies should feel like special events much like how Force Awakens felt.

IIRC they did say they were taking time off from the "main entries" and more or less doing what they had originally intended (which is doing a lot of side stuff, like Rian's trilogy). Which for me, I'm perfectly fine with. I think it would be good for Disney and for Star Wars if they continue doing what they've started with Rogue One and Solo, The Fallen Order, and The Mandalorian and showing that they've got other ideas for Star Wars properties and not everything's going to follow the "formula" people feel the sequel trilogy has followed. It's universe building, which Star Wars sorely needs (whether you factor in Legends canon or not) and it is helping a lot of the confusion people have had about what's canon and what's not (as I've seen from people's reactions from stuff shown in Rebels, The Mandalorian and even stuff in The Fallen Order). I think it would benefit them too to do smaller scale (in comparison to the main line movies) Star Wars cinematic releases with some of this side stuff too the way Marvel's done with some of its more minor releases (like Ant-Man and Captain Marvel, and Black Panther where they didn't dump Avengers money into them). There's really no reason why with a concept like the one Star Wars has (a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away) you couldn't have something akin to the MCU (outside of a lack of creativity).

I love that Filoni is shadowing both JJ and Rian. Guy not only is a great Star Wars storyteller, but has a healthy respect for the good things about the old EU while still doing his own thing. It shows in Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian. Like if it was up to Filoni, Darth Revan would've been made canon in Clone Wars, but Lucas blocked it.
Also had no idea that Kathleen Kennedy is 66. Thought the talk about retirement felt premature because I thought she was a lot younger, but I guess it isn't as much as I thought.

It's partially why I have found it so ridiculous that certain sects of the fandom act like she's this weird 30 something Tumblr SJW Feminist (to paraphrase them) when it's like.... Dudes, she's a boomer. She's only nine years younger than George Lucas.

I really hope the fans won't be assholes to whoever gets cast as Young Luke.
