Still looking for an exact quote of Cornette's re: the joshi workers. I'm not even saying he didn't say it, but "I heard..." or asking, "Didn't he say...?" is not good enough. From episode 303: "I don't understand the Asian school girl fetish with the 98-pound champion pro wrestling being Riho-diculous and the legendary Emi Sakura [...] she looked like Margaret Cho. [...] They come up with a discount Margaret Cho that nobody's ever heard of because she's a legend for training all these other girls that nobody's ever heard of, except Kenny Olivier, who has an Asian schoolgirl fetish." From episode 304: "Because Kenny Olivier has a Japanese school girl anime fetish, we've all got to suffer."

That is bullshit. R A C I S T Bullshit No, it's absolutely not "bullshit." You can like or dislike the fact, but it doesn't change that it is indeed a fact. I did no editorializing one way or the other on whether or not any of that was good (or bad). But ethnicities as a gimmick has long been a thing across any and all forms of pro wrestling across all countries. Being an ethnicity is not a gimmick. Especially in 2019 The singhs are 2 indian dudes proud of being indian. They mention indian things and dance. But that is who they are. Being a minority in america does not mean i am a gimmick

So...the Singhs are 2 Indian dudes proud of being Indian who do "Indian things," in your words, and dance, but that's not a gimmick?
A gimmick is still a gimmick even if that's "who you are." Matt Riddle being an MMA fighter is a gimmick. Chris Jericho being an aging rock star is a gimmick. Bruno Sammartino being an Italian immigrant hero was a gimmick. Pedro Morales being Puerto Rican was a gimmick. That's simply how it was (and in some ways is).

It's a huge problem in wrestling in general.
See whenever Cornette talks about bringing in "The Japanese" to ROH when guys like Okada and Naito have vastly different gimmicks and are used best against different opponents. Also see whenever dorks on the internet fantasy book a "new nation" for every gang of black people.

Kenny Omega wrestled a nine year old girl and he also wrestled a blow up doll. They were presented as wrestling matches. The videos are out there if you want to look them up. Cornette took great offense to both and will never forgive him for what he sees as an affront to the wrestling business. Cornette gave the world Chainsaw Charlie

Cornette does commentary for a show that has "commercial breaks" that are wannabe Tim & Eric bits I do find it kind of sweetly ironic that after years of lambasting 'cosplay wrestling' he's ended up in an 80s wrestling LARP.

It's the greatest irony and apparently he used the term cosplay wrestling on the show, which is the most galaxy brained piece of ironic theater in the history of wrestling. Like I don't even hate Cornette as much as I think I should but that is beautiful pathos.

Like seriously, did he lambaste trish and the other girls for being blonde bimbo fetishes. Cornette is backwards as hell. You know people excuse the behavior with the whole "he hates everybody he isn't racist," Line. But f*** that noise. Dude is a straight trash racist asshat.

Hoo boy - I'm almost loath to get into this on yet another sports-related figure after giving the world my pranging on Don Cherry this week. Almost.
It is helpful to get a historical perspective on how pro wrestling evolved to where we are now, and Cornette has both the memory and the resources to provide a great deal of insight on the business that can still be useful.
On the other hand, I don't want to give Cornette a pass because he is increasingly out of touch with how divergent and diverse the pro wrestling subculture has become. With the increasing diversity within the business and the efforts from the bottom up to bring more progressive thought into the product, Cornette's preference for the way things used to be is problematic.
NWA Powerrr does have a semblance of the old school, but it works partly because some of it is quite tongue-in-cheek and partly because it's not WWE and does focus more on the in-ring product and makes the entire endeavour more meaningful.
The issues of racism, sexism, homophobia, and jingoism in kayfabe pro wrestling have been in place since the 1950s, and are not likely to end anytime soon. These are often used as the themes for feuds and matches, though their treatment over the years has evolved and become less simplistic. What appears to be a bigger issue is in the treatment of people within the locker room and by promoters. With the growing blurring of the line between what's in-ring and what's going on in the wider world, these issues _really_ need to be given careful consideration in the current climate, especially if modern pro wrestling comes increasingly under scrutiny from mainstream media.

Calling Emi Sakura "discount Margaret Cho" is just as bad. They are nothing alike other than they're both Asian.

Even if you're laughing saying this shit, that still isn't cool The fact you repeat the line like its genius is just ......man idek anymore.
