No one is entitled to a job where they follow their dreams. If animators don't think they make enough money, they can quit and get a normal job like everyone else. They are lucky to be able to work in that field. The difference is, the world NEEDS teachers, it doesn't NEED animation. Sure I agree they are not essentials. Not the point of the thread Doesnt mean you deserve to be overworked for bad pay because you followed your passion/ something you are good at. I know that's not the point of the thread. I'm saying that I don't agree that they are underpaid. In the grand scheme of the world, when it comes to people who deserve more money for their hard work, people who get to draw f***ing cartoons for a living are hardly people I'm worried about. I understand your argument, I just disagree.

Social workers are way up there in regards to the disparity between the level of pay and the stress of the job. Both parents, can confirm. Highly stressful and they get a lot of shit. Teachers, as have been mentioned comes to mind.

The guy making sure I don't get super-herpes from the shitter at work gets 20,000 a year for a full time job
About 30 of us volunteered to give up a % of a wage increase to pay him a living wage (we were aiming for 45k a year) and the Board shot it down saying "That would set a dangerous example". Example of what?! Kindness? Compassion?!

It's extremely irrelevant if it's their passion or not. Teachers love aspects about their jobs, it can be a labor of love, which is part of how they are so often short-changed and exploited, but that doesn't mean they are any less f***ed over, just because it's something important to them.

Most. Especially in America.
Teachers, nurses, EMTs, waiting staff of every kind, the list goes on and on.

All relative to where you live imo. Most NYC city jobs seeming pay well, but the cost of living is too damn high it doesn’t really matter.

So by your logic no job besides doctors ,teachers, and scientist can be underpaid? And well the people that supply their material I guess.

I have said twice now that I understand your point but I disagree with you. You can go back and forth with me about this all day and nothing you say will change my mind. Since you like animation so much, you need to make like Elsa and let it go.

Since you like animation so much, you need to make like Elsa and let it go. I mean, Frozen has probably had a bigger impression on most kids who saw it's lives than most teachers. So by that logic it's a greater public good than someone teaching parabolas.

Freelance transcription. 30 cents per transcribed minute, so when you account for how long the transcription takes along with any research etc required, if you managed $0.15 per minute you're doing well. And if you spend the whole day doing a 30 minute project, you're screwed.

Let's not forget in addition to the exploitative practices of studios in just the US, that a lot of animation work gets outsourced to countries without labor protections where workers are paid pennies on the dollar and work in horrible conditions. Animation sweatshops are very much a thing.
On a similar note, this very much applies to workers in the video game industry.

Teachers? I don't know. For the most part they're glorified babysitters.

I'm in hospital security.
We're responsible for managing difficult patients, often psychiatric patients, sometimes with violent histories. We've talked people down from jumping off the roof of the parking structure. I've been punched a dozen times, I've had people pull knives on me, all sorts of crazy shit. We spend our entire shift in the emergency department watching psych patients on cameras making sure they don't hurt themselves and watching them interact with nursing staff in case it goes south. We regularly have to interact with the police and maintain some super accurate reporting for the many times we get pulled into court.
We get paid twenty cents above minimum wage. You can imagine the serious staffing issues we have. First time you get hit, you go "I could make this flipping burgers" and leave.
