Personally, I'm happy to see Punk back in WWE, especially if he doesn't have to answer to Vince. I'm sure he's still got plenty of friends there and FOX probably offered an amazing deal; I don't see how that's "selling out".

At your current job if your friend told you, you worked for a scumbag company and you should quit....but quitting means working at some small business that pays a quarter of what you make now, would you do that? It's fine if you would but 98% of people would not do that. I guess I'm in the Top 2% then, because I did just that (even moved across the country to do so). The 'smaller business' I left for not only respected my opinions and expertise more, but they also rewarded me handsomely for my contributions and now I went from making a quarter of the income I had at my last job to triple of what I've ever made in any previous job. You don't realize how very real Stockholm Syndrome is for some workers, and simply getting out from under that influence can mean a significant difference if given the opportunity. I'm sure the 98% of those that are miserable in their jobs only stay because they're worried about their ability to land on their feet, but many of these companies (WWE included) operate under the impression that they are the only game in town. I'm not saying "selling out" is bad or anything (you do you for your families), but I have little sympathy for people who complain about their work conditions and then don't do anything about it because of fear. WWE is not the only pro wrestling company in town anymore, and hasn't been for the longest time. If someone wants to stick with them, that's their prerogative; but anyone who complains about their situation yet does nothing about it? You're on your own. It's not but for most of those guys they will not make that money anywhere else, AEW can't sign all of them, most guys don't wanna go work in Japan etc etc.

Man some of y’all are really trying too hard to gloss over the fact he’s working with Fox and not really WWE He’s not answering to Vince or HHH, the min he feels some f**ery is going on he’s out. However, let’s not get it twisted if WWE played a part in getting him back, the dude auditioned for this job he wanted it. Cut the whole WWE spin master shit, it doesn’t work in this scenario Yeah. PWI said WWE gave their blessing for Punk but with that said it just means that FOX approved everything for him prior to WWE finding out. He was gonna be in regardless it seems. Yea, considering they were in a legal battle with each other it makes sense they would run it by them first to make sure everything good on a professional end since you technically have to advertise the show (and by extension him as well) But he auditioned and he won, dude didn't get on his hands and knees begging to go back like people want to make it seem. No real moral compass to think of, it's a good paycheck for a slight return to WWE. If you wanted AEW or nothing that's a personal problem but the writing has been on the wall for a bit he might come back in some capacity and this is the best of worlds in regards to being in wrestling without the bullshit

So now that Punk will presumably be filling the role of “tatted up retired wrestler providing corporate-approved hot takes” doesn’t that make Corey Graves redundant?

And again, not really working with anyone in WWE and only working with Fox producers. He can talk about WWE all he wants, can do things outside of the show environment (he has an agent after all), and doesn't have HHH down his neck constantly. Or staring at his skinny fat ass.

Boooooo! Sellout! HYPocrite. He was never that good anyways. He has lost my respect. How could he? He should have gone to aew. He was our voice! You were the chosen one... It was said you would destroy the sith not join them... I loved you... When does his new shirt come out? - the collective quotes and feelings of smarks I've seen since the revealation came out last night lol. Always funny to see them turn on their favorites

Occam’s Razor tells me that “Selling out” is code for “He didn’t go to AEW like I wanted him to”

Yea that's pretty funny too. But he's getting fox money not oil money... Not yet anyways. It was awkward seeing him posing to five people and no audience though

That’s the thing too, it was so awkward. Leave it to WWE or FOX or whatever to be handed literally what could have been one of the most memorable moments in history and it coming off so placid. I understand the context and restraint of him signing with that show in particular but...then why pretend there’s a huge audience that’s not there? Lol.

I think Punk would deserve criticism if he did indeed go back to WWE. Remember, he used his best friends podcast to talk about how WWE made him lose his passion for wrestling and nearly killed him, only for him to screw his friend over due to a WWE doctor suing them and now it seems he's running back to the same company. The same Punk who got mad for Colt turning up to a WWE event backstage.
He's working for FOX right now and if WWE did offer him big money for a match I wouldn't blame him for taking it. But he'll look a hypocrite while doing it but i'm sure he wouldn't be bothered as long as he's getting the money.

Sigh...you would think, that of all people, CM Punk would have had the moral integrity not to support the f***ing WWE in these times. Basically, any time he has an opinion on anything now, I won't be able to help but think he'll change it for enough money. "Moral integrity" doesn't pay the bills. As a wise man once said, "Pay a man enough, and he'll walk barefoot into Hell."

I'm a big AEW fan, but I'm surprised so many people thought he was actually going to show up there. Cody's even flatout said, more or less, "If he goes back anywhere, it'd be WWE." That's as clearcut as it gets. People really need to get out of this "everything's a work!" mentality.
Anyway, I thought this was the best career move for him as it means he gets to be WWE adjacent without actually working for WWE. He gets to be back in the pro wrestling orbit without actually doing any of the things that made him hate pro wrestling and leave in the first place. He gets to hang out with his friend Samoa Joe for however long Joe is there. And he gets to dish on things without going through Triple H or Vince as a middle man. It's a great situation for him.
