T2
But it's like saying that double chocolate ice cream is better than chocolate ice cream.

T2 is the first sci-fi movie I can remember.

They are both great, but I cannot help but to feel like they are two different genres. The first is a horror film with a sci-fi setting. The second is an action flick with the same setting. It is actually hard to compare them because of that.

I think I'm partial to the grittier horror feel of the first, but they are both fantastic.

T2 always seemed like the bigger, better more entertaining movie to me.

It's an impossible choice to make. Both are amazing.

Love them both but i really like the dark grittier original, Arnie was frightening as heck as the original merciless terminator

It is IMO an unfair comparison unless we start boiling it down to specific comparisons like action , story , characters etc.
I love them both but for entirely different reasons,

I think the tone and atmosphere of T1 is so incredibly well done that it just edges out T2. As effective as the latter's opening scene is, the former just really sells the dark future that's coming throughout the entire movie, and makes even the lighter moments just seem like temporary reprieves from the Judgement Day to come.

I think Terminator is the better movie, while watching it.
I think Terminator 2 is the better movie, while watching it.
So no, can't really compare.

I prefer the Human vs Robot dynamic in the first one On that note, t1000 aside, I am sick of overpowered CGI nanobot terminators that can do anything. I'm much more interested in a simple robot skeleton covered in skin

The Terminator is one of the greatest movies ever. Terminator 2 Judgment Day is even better.
