I used to love the NWO ones in 1996. Before they got a million members and it was just Hogan, Hall, and Nash. They looked so dominant and I loved heels even as a 9/10 year old. Hogan has always been my favorite wrestler and him together with two of my other favorites threatening to completely take over WCW was awesome!

The Shield were consistently booked in doing effective beatdowns in their first year.
As far as old school examples, while the Horsemen had plenty of good ones, I recall the Heenan Family beating down Ken Patera standing out. Part of it was the ominous image of them showing up at the top of the ramp and slowly walking down to the ring. The ensuing attack/whipping was pretty brutal for mid 80s WWF standards.

I liked the Andersons beat down of Magnum TA, but more because of Magnum’s “Come on you” promo beforehand than anything else.

What I think worked about the Horsemen was that there was such a contrast between the slick persona they had in promos as rich a**holes in suits or rolex watches vs. the street gang style beatings they would deliver on the babyfaces. The nWo certainly worked well with the spraypaint and cheap shots, but there was something about heels like Tully or Arn you'd see in private jets, tying Dusty Rhodes to a car and breaking his arm with a baseball bat that really showed you how vicious they were. By contrast Ted DiBiase was a wealthy jerk heel, but its hard to imagine the character going that far in his heyday.

I still love the Heenan Family making their way to the ring and beating down Ken Patera. Outside of Survivor Series-type events, it was the only time I ever saw the Family work as an actual stable, and holy crap Heenan showed how vicious and evil he could be.

In a way, the Horsemen were similar to Patrick Bateman, all this sophistication but still brutish thugs underneath.

Oh, oh, and my absolute favorite of all time and I can't believe I forgot this one - Eddie Gilbert and the Russians taking down Bill Watts. Everything about this was so well-done, even Ultimate Warrior didn't f*** up his role in it.

nWo vs the Sting army
It was going well until Buff got a little too cocky.

The Horsemen and JJ beating Dusty in the Crockett parking lot was crazy. The black dot censor on Dusty's hand is what made it for me.
Rey Misterio as Nash's lawn dart is something I never get tired of seeing.

So many have goofed on that line, but I've always loved it. In my head, it was Dusty daring them to give him their best shot now because he was going to bring a receipt.
