I actually liked Digimon 1 and 3. Even tought I hated the ending on both . What were they thinking when they made Sakuyamon useless in the end of the series? Like, everbody and their dog loved her and Ruki(I think her name is Rica in America, I am not sure.) but they did almost nothing in the series gah it made me angry But that sorta happens in every season of Digimon the leader usually takes over the last few episodes, but with 3, I was only upset because the ending was so bittersweet. Like, they saved the world, but they didn't really win, ya know?

PS: LOL at the guy who says that Naruto isn´t over rated ! In my contry, if you watch anime, either you don´t go to conventions or you like Naruto. It´s like that. Well, what I meant is that it' s worth its success, that' s all, when I still can' t figure out how stuff such as Dragon Ball or Fist of the North Star became that much damn famous, and that Naruto was the first highly popular anima which didn' t disappoint me.

or Fist of the North Star became that much damn famous, At the time American audiences never saw anything as graphic and violent in any media. Ironic cause the scene that impressed me the most was watching the skyscrapers collapse upon Ken as he just plows through them unhindered. That part was just badass.

Ssnakebite: Wow here in Brazil, everbody and their dog love the series, but it´s not a healty love, they are crazy for it! So crazy they don´t even care to look for other anime.
Wich pisses me off. All the new breed of anime fans are jackasses who prefer to go to conventions to look at cute girls dressed in cosplay and that´s it. When questioned about the anime exibithion they go all like "Hey I can watch Naruto at my home. I don´t need to know any other series."...This killed the anime Exibithion in the state were I live.
It made me wish that Naruto exploded :/...Seriosly.

We often try to make each other dexcover new things and we are glad to descover them, so we see a wide panel of animes/mangas, so Naruto isn' t the only thing that is big and that we see. But in the context you talked about, it' s getting ridiculous.

I wish I were kind enough to get you pics of my favorites, but I'm not.
5. Yu Yu Hakusho It gets a bad rep as something of a DBZ knock of from time to time, but the story is really creative, at first anyway, and the Dark Tournament is when the show really shines.
4. Dragon Ball As a whole, much, much better than DBZ and anything thereafter. DBZ brought me to the table, but Dragon Ball kept me going.
3. Rurouni Kenshin Everything I've ever liked in an anime; great action, enveloping story, noteworthy and eyecatching characters. Also, swords, baby.
2. Voltron Its the classic, bay-beeeee! I may lose street cred for not posting it under "Go! Lion" but you know what; Voltron was a cooler name. That's right, I said it.
1. Samuai Pizza Cats Alright, calm down; take a deep breath. Samurai Pizza Cats was just f***in' it for me. I loved the story, and the characters, the comedy, the action; it was all rolled up into one so brilliantly.
Honorable mentions; Cowboy Bebop - Great show, just not into it as much as others. Trigun - I knocked off points for it being a western version of Rurouni Kenshin. Points back for featuring the Green Ranger! Ranma 1/2 - I liked the Manga way better, which is why it didn't really make the list. DBZ - Like I said, brought me to the table, but almost made me give up anime at the same time.
And now, anime films.
5. Project A-Ko The second anime movie I'd ever seen (the first being Roujin Z), earns itself big time points for having superhuman girl, and constant barrage of girl panties. Schoolgirls. What can I say, I was horny and young at the time.
4. Pom Poko A movie about racoons...sweet!
3. Fatal Fury: The Movie BAD...ASS...MOVIE
2. Galaxy Express 999 Um...the movie made me cry, at the end, I don't mind telling you. I'll give you the excuse that I was young, and kinda lame at the time, but the thing is, the ending was so emotional to me. I don't even know why. Great movie all around though.
1. Porco Rosso Oh, my...wow...I'd never really seen anything so beautiful or well done like this before I've seen this film. It was so amazingly creative, and well written, and even well acted (I even liked the English Cast, Michael Keaton FTW) and just, well....great, y'know?

surprised Bleach hasn't been mentioned yet. I love that show I REALLY need to watch Bleach. The night I was going to start watching it I ended up watching Ouran instead and never got round to it. =S Also. IMO, Naruto's popularity is nowhere near the levels of Dragonball and Pokemon (though that's more to do with the games then the series) when they were first out. Naruto's not even the number one series in Japan, that honour goes to One Piece. Remember kids, Pirates > Ninjas ;D

As an anime newbie, the only one I've really been able to get into so far has been ... Witch Hunter Robin. Although, to be honest, my friend has the first episode of Hellsing on his MySpace page and I thought that was pretty bad-ass. Then again, I mark for vampires, so take that for what you will. Sadly, I can't come up with a Top Five, but those are two that I like so far. Maybe once I see more anime I can make a proper list. EDIT: Again, I can't speak on much, but I've heard nothing but good things about Naruto, Cowboy Bebop, and a few others listed; the few episodes of Samurai Champloo I saw were pretty cool, too.

5. Sailor Moon R
More or less what brought me in to the anime scene, believe it or not. I liked this series best because while it doesn't have lesbians (drat!), it's a great mix of comedy, serious elements and drama, and it's just a fun series, really.
4. Initial D
Ahh, Initial D, for the longest time, it was without a doubt my favorite. The Tokyopop dub is BRUTAL (both mangas and anime) and should never be watched/read by anyone. It's odd, I had been a fan of the show since 10th grade or so, I'd let my 56k internet connection run all night and download episodes so I could watch them after school the next day. When I found out we were getting it localized, I was amped. And the first volume of the manga was done absolutely perfect...then...came volume two, they changed everyone's name to something "less Japanese", dumbed down the smart dialogue, and had everyone talking like Fast and the Furious rejects. I.was.PISSED. The anime is reportedly just as bad in this respect. I own the entire series on chinese bootleg DVDs, barring Season Four, which I just downloaded fansubbed.
It really is a great, simple little fun series. It's like a soap opera for guys with racing in a lot of respects. It's easy to empathize with a lot of the characters, and the ones that you're supposed to hate are easy to hate. The soundtrack goes so well with the series and the music is very addictive (I admittedly own several of the soundtrack cd's), and well, if you want an escape from the usual magical people/kung fu animes (nothing wrong with em), Initial D is one of the best options IMO. Car enthusiasts also apply.
3. Paranoia Agent
Oh my god, amazing through and through. I first saw it at my school's anime club (yeah I'm a geek, shut up, it was worth it as the teacher/club sponsor was a fan himself and as long as we kept it on the downlow we could watch the most outlandishly violent anime we wanted, hell I picked Wicked City for us to watch once...and we did) I was just blown away. I had never seen anything like it. It's all very cerebral and bits of it stick with you long after you've seen it. It's funny, deeply disturbing, and even a bit scary, all at the same time.
2. Hokuto No Ken!!/Fist of the North Star
Only beat out Paranoia Agent for the number two spot because it's what opened the door to other anime than DBZ and Sailor Moon (not that there's anything wrong with them), I would come home Fridays after school and eagerly await for 7:00/8:00 to come, so I could watch Fist of the North Star on Showtime Beyond. Great series. A bit cheesy now, but that's part of it's charm.
1. Cowboy Bebop.
I never get tired of this show, and I will watch re-runs even though I've seen them a billion times over, I used to own the entire series but it got stolen. I adore this show.
Honorable mentions: Macross Plus, Bleach (agreeing with another's sentiments here, too early for me to call it a favorite, but it is a CURRENT favorite), Speed Racer, Shin Hokuto No Ken!!, Gundam 0083, Hellsing, FLCL, Excel Saga.

You don't understand how much I hate the Manga dub of Fist of The North Star.I saw the original japanese version, then I saw what they did to the show. They took off all of the awesome music( You Wa Shock) and I think didn't even get to the best part of the series(Introducing Amiba, Toki, Raoh(Ken-oh) etc.

I was always also pissed at how the series would just suddenly end and start back over because they didn't get in to the rest of it. But it's how I was introduced to FOTNS, so I can't hate it too much. Plus it was funny to hear the voiceover guy say some of the episode titles... "THE NIGHTMARISH FULL SCALE WAR! MY FISTS PACK ONE MILLION VOLTS!!"
