You don't understand how much I hate the Manga dub of Fist of The North Star.I saw the original japanese version, then I saw what they did to the show. They took off all of the awesome music( You Wa Shock) and I think didn't even get to the best part of the series(Introducing Amiba, Souther, Shuu, Toki, Raoh(Ken-oh) etc. Yeah, I did miss the music, admittedly. I was always also pissed at how the series would just suddenly end and start back over because they didn't get in to the rest of it. But it's how I was introduced to FOTNS, so I can't hate it too much. Plus it was funny to hear the voiceover guy say some of the episode titles... "THE NIGHTMARISH FULL SCALE WAR! MY FISTS PACK ONE MILLION VOLTS!!" I understand that. Have you seen the new Raoh Gaiden movie?

In no particular order:
1. Tenchi Muyo! (To me, the OAV is the best version, followed by Tenchi in Tokyo, but Tenchi Universe, while good, should be retitled The Ryoko Show [i.e., Happy Days --> The Fonzie Show, WWE Raw circa 2003 --> The HHH Show, TNA Impact --> The Jeff Jarrett Show])
2. Macross (the original version, not the Robotech version)
3. Hand Maid May
4. Gundam Wing
5. Sailor Moon (the first "mainstream" anime I got hooked on)
Other mentions: Outlaw Star, Azumanga Daioh, Bubblegum Crisis 2032-33, I My Me! Strawberry Eggs, Pretty Sammy (though this series is technically part of the Tenchi series)

I didn't know there had been any new Hokuto No Ken devolopments since the Shin Hokuto No Ken mini OVA

No love for Vampire Hunter D? Lupin the 3rd is great. Cowboy Bebop is by far the best anime. Outlaw Star is another great one. Also, try Wolf's Rain and Gasarki. NGE is just classic. Spirited Away is such a great movie. Oh and Perfect Blue. It's great is a f***ed up sorta way.

5. Yu Yu Hakusho Just because of Dark Tournament and Chapter Black. Probably would have been higher up the list if it wasn't for the abrupt ending. After all of the build up they pulled a Russo Swerve. But well written, much better than most fighting animes. Everyone serves a purpose and can fight, you don't have the Dragonball syndrome where anyone Goku has beaten become worthless. Just well done all around. Naruto has a lot to thank to this anime.
4. Now and Then, Here and There Young Shu meets a girl named Lala Ru and ends up billions of years in a waterless future ruled over by the batshit insane and ruthless King Hamdo. Just a very sad anime with a satisfying ending. Only 13 episodes and it really sucks you in. Unlike many animes every punch and every shot is painful.
3. FLCL Much more than it seems. When you get below the humor you find that it's a sad tale about puberty (horns growing out of his head?). Though only 6 episodes it sucks up a lot of time from having to watch it over and over again to get it. Much deeper than most anime out there simply because of how condensed it is.
2. Paranoia Agent What can I say that hasn't been said? Satoshi Kon is a genius and so far this has to be his magnum opus. Lil' Slugger whacks people in the head, seemingly random, but is it connected? Very well done, some of the best writing I've ever seen. Great social commentary, and just a creepy anime.
1. Neon Genesis Evangelion Greatest. Anime. Ever. This is what all anime aspires to be. Great battles, tremendous characters, best writing in any anime ever, and amazingly enough despite its story becomes marketable, single handedly saving Gainax time after time. Rough around the edges to be sure (just watch the last two episodes) but for how groundbreaking it was it deserves top spot.
