This evening could have gone better.
First, my car would not start because my brand new battery (less than a month old) was completely dead. I hooked up the battery to a charger and went to pick my son up from work.
Then, when coming home in the family van I slid when turning into our neighborhood (it started snowing this afternoon) and hit the curb. It drove fine the remaining block or so home, but when I got home I could see that the rim of the front tire was bent.
As I was struggling with the van's manual tools to at least swap out the spare for the damaged tire, the charger gave the warning that the battery for my car was bad and will not hold a charge (the car was in my temperature-controlled garage the whole time).
After wearing myself out with the hand tools for changing tires, I discovered that two of the lug nuts on the van were no longer on the thread properly and not only could I not put on the spare, but the repairs would probably be considerable as the bolts will be stripped by the time the tires is replaced.
Now I am frustrated, irritated, sore, and actually feeling physically drained even an hour later. I have Bethlem Myopathy, so sore muscles and weakness isn't new to me, but this is at a different level this evening. Sure don't need to discover I also hurt myself this evening. That would be the cherry on top of this crap sundae.

Rental car requires a deposit that I don't have, the van has to get towed, and the car still won't start after charging for hours.
To top it all off, I am getting a colonoscopy tomorrow and need to start prep for that, so I need to resolve these things before I have to attach myself to a toilet. So yes, yesterday was a figurative crap day while today is supposed to be a literal crap day.

*bro hugs* I know it isn’t a lot, but it’s sincere.

I'm sorry for all the stuff that has happened to you today. It sucks when everything piles up like that. I hope that you are able to have a relaxing night though.

So you're saying you have two cars, a son, and a house?
Doesn't sound so bad to me.

Times are easing up a bit. Yes, I took a hit when paying the deposit for the rental car, but that is survivable. I wound up rescheduling the colonoscopy because I had a bad reaction to the prep process, getting really nauseated and developed a terrible migraine. The migraine is still with me today, but now that I am not concerned with reactions with anesthesia I can take some medication for it. The van won't be ready until the end of the week at the earliest and I just ordered a tow for my car. We'll see how this all finishes out. So you're saying you have two cars, a son, and a house? Doesn't sound so bad to me. I have three sons, actually. Yes, things could definitely be worse (and I have gone through times like that). Fortunately, I did not injure myself trying to change the tire like I do every other time I do so (I have Bethlem Myopathy, so my muscles don't normally have the oomph needed for such difficult manual tasks, which is how I ALWAYS pull something doing them). I can walk around just fine without any new, additional pains (cold weather typically causes muscle pain for those with my condition, though I am so used to it that it isn't something that I let hamper normally).

Ugh. Alternator is bad in my car. Getting both working again will cost at least $1250. Well, guess I’m not getting anyone a damned thing for Christmas. I’m wondering if we now might have to cancel our vacation in early next year. It’s the first one we scheduled in years because money is always tight.

But an alternator from AutoZone and a serpentine belt tool from harbor freight. Easy to replace and cost you like 200 dollars instead.

There is no room under the hood to work on stuff like that without taking other parts out, which is particularly difficult when you don't own any of the needed tools. Have you ever had to remove a front fender simply to replace a headlight bulb? You would if you owned one of those cars.

That sucks sir. I am lucky that I can do small repairs, with help from neighbors,on my car.
Last year had a great night vending at a BIW show. Made a great profit. Was driving home thinking "Hell yea I can put 200 in my savings and get a bit ahead." then my car dies and wont start. Alternator and battery had went out. So went from having 200 to put into savings to having to add 100 to that to get the car running again. Thankfully 2 of my neighbors are retired auto mechanics. So borrowed tools from them and they showed me how to replace the alternator.
Wish you luck sir. Hate that you are having this bad spell of luck so close to the holidays.
