Two of my favorite dishes. Cheese, sauce and potato. Easy and delicious. But which do I prefer?
Which do you prefer?
Both are versatile dishes. My go to variants if I'm making them at home are my 4C fries(4C=Chicken Chili, Cheese, Curly fries), OR my beef stew poutine.
How do you like your's?
Another nice thing about both is that they can be a cheap, good fast food when you need to slum it. I am a sucker for Rally's/Checker's or a nice Coney chili fry. Poutine in my area is not uncommon, although will be a bit more expensive than most chili fries. I loved Harmony Hall's poutine, because they used house-made sausage in it from their butchery.
Best place in your town; either cheap or more than cheap?

While I love both options I prefer my fries hot, crispy, salty and served with the house red

I love some fries covered in Cincinnati chili and cheese, specifically Gold Star Chili.
I've never had the chance to try poutine, though, so can't really comment on a favorite between the two.

Steak fries dipped in beef gravy is delicious, but the cheddar cheese curds with the gravy and fries is stick-to-your-ribs amazing.

I'm honestly a fan of both, it's tough to pick one over the other.

As a Quebecois, it always fascinates me than our concoction of fries, cheese curds and brown sauce actually crossed the border into the US and has become a thing. But it makes sense, Poutine could have been an American creation and nobody would bat an eyelash at it.
Very versatile dish. Straight poutine is always tops, but the top variables are italian poutine which is spaghetti sauce instead of brown sauce; then you got the Galvaude which is a straight poutine with chopped chicken and green peas and then you got straight poutine with bacon.
Also, straight poutine served on top of pizza.

Also, straight poutine served on top of pizza. I have been experimenting with a breakfast poutine that my girlfriend and I love. Essentially, it is a butter-biscuit, surrounded by chopped home fries, apple-maple chicken sausage, cheddar-cheese curds, and topped with sausage gravy, over-easy eggs and bacon crumbles.

Poutine by a large margin. Although to be fair I’m not sure I ever tried chili cheese fries proper. Chili is okay (not the biggest fan) and I love cheese fries. Never really felt inclined to dilute the deliciousness of cheese fries with chili.

I can’t remember ever finding it is Massachusetts (though I’m sure if you look hard enough you could find it). You’ll easily find though people who’ve never heard of it here. Shame, I love it

Detroit area raised Michigander, so I'm partial to the chili cheese fries at Actually have never been to the two famous downtown Detroit coneys despite living here most of my life. I'll have to remedy that someday.

I'd love to try poutine, but I'd be shocked if anyone here in Appalachia ever served it.

I've never been a big fan of any sort of gravy, so never tried poutine. Although, I actually prefer chili cheese on tots rather than fries. But bacon cheddar fries? Yes please!
