After a couple of weeks away for the holiday period, NXT are back at Full Sail to kick off the new year live on USA and BT Sport. The last one is fitting, given the heavy NXT UK presence this week. As ever, discussion rules for this show and AEW Dynamite are listed here: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/592137/rules-discussion-weekly-aew-shows
We left off with the ideal feel good ending for 2019, as Rhea Ripley ended the reign of terror of Shayna Baszler to become the new NXT Women's Champion, becoming the first woman to win that title and the NXT UK Women's Title. The Nightmare returns for the first time as champion tonight, will anyone stake a claim for the first title shot? Will Baszler seek a rematch? Will someone like Dakota Kai or Io Shirai mount a challenge? Or with Worlds Collide looming, will someone from NXT UK make themselves heard?
The 2020 edition of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic begins tonight, and all the first round matches pit NXT teams against teams from NXT UK. The highlight match this week is the meeting between the NXT Tag Team Champions and the NXT UK Tag Team Champions, as the Undisputed ERA of Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly go up against Mark Coffey and Wolfgang from Gallus. Which top Firm goes through to the semi finals?
The other first round match this week pits two unpopular teams against each other, as The Forgotten Sons' Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake go up against Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel from Imperium. The Forgotten Sons got to last year's final, where they fell to Aleister Black and Ricochet, so they're looking to go one better. But will they be stopped at the first time of asking by WALTER's goons?
One of the top rivalries of last year was the big boy beef between Dominik Dijakovic and Keith Lee, and they renew hostilities this week in a Fatal Four Way, along with Cameron Grimes and Damian Priest, where the winner will challenge Roderick Strong for the NXT North American Championship. The odds seem to be against Grimes as he's in there with three monsters, but can he turn expectations on their head? Or will one of the big boys book their shot with the Messiah of the Backbreaker?
All this and much more tonight from 8/7c on USA in the States and BT Sport in the UK and Ireland!
