Meant to watch and only just remembered it. Maybe it'll be on Hulu later or something I guess.

Good pilot, weakest part for me is the future framing device, it feels a bit too...IDK. Like the NBC house style for smug comedy bits. It's tonally off with the dramedy vibe of the flashbacks.

I would prefer if the framing devices was only at the beginning, then rest of the time it's just Dwayne Johnson the actual guy narrating over his life.

eh, it was ok. Not terrible, but won't beat myself up if I miss a future episode.

Yeah, I tried to make it a point to watch this and Keenan’s thing. Alright. Might tune in for more. Sitcoms are weird these days. I know laugh-tracks/live audiences are a thing of the past but..something weird bout ‘em to me.

Boy, Rock is really letting people know he's gonna run for president, huh?

Yeah, I think I personally like it because it reminds me of plays and theater. I understand it’s passé for general audiences but I think the content has to really be “clicking” (I.e The Office”) in order for it to not feel weird/something missing, at least for me.

The other example I thought of was Modern Family but they played with the “being recorded/reality tv” framing as well.

Thought that it was pretty decent. I think that the future episodes will be better as this was more or less an intro more than anything.
I will say that the actors cast look amazing.

I just don’t see how the show can logically go beyond one season (if that’s the intent) it seems like they are going in a non sequential route for a sequential story. We aren’t following Rock from childhood to stardom as I originally thought. Just random stories of his life

The stories weren't random, they were thematically connected about Dwayne's relationship with his father. As a kid, his dad's his hero even though he disappoints him. As a high school teen, Rocky's not around and Dwayne feels he and his mother are on their own. Then as a college freshman, his dad is his biggest cheerleader, but also doesn't realize Dwayne would have been just as happy if he saw him on his first day.
I thought there was some nuance on Rocky's characterization too. He starts the vignettes at his peak, believing they are going to see big things from him. Then at the end he's working a day job. No shame, but I'm sure he thought he would still be working in front of big crowds than working on a clipboard. Their relationship will likely be a running theme the rest of the season.

Good show.
Casting Andre the Giant has to be by far the most difficult thing to "get right". I mean, good luck finding a 7 foot tall 500lb french giant. And honestly, they did about as good as you could expect. It's basically an impossible task.

How would a second season of Young Rock if we presumably end on fictional Dwayne Johnson becoming President?

It is on Hulu and I wanted to like it...but man...it felt pretentious. As stated before I do not see either how they can carry a storyline properly with this structure

Boy, Rock is really letting people know he's gonna run for president, huh? Did the show speak to something involving a presidential run? I really can't see him losing if he were to run in the next 4-8 years if he keeps on the path he has been going.
