twitter.com/maskedwrestlers/status/1217601222515077120Mantaur's WWE debut happened 25 years ago this month, and someone found 3 different versions of this match. Wrestling Challenge - Gorilla Monsoon and Ted DiBiase U.S. Action Zone - Jim Ross and Todd Pettengill International Action Zone - Gorilla Monsoon and Stan Lane Also, for some reason, Howard Finkel's intro is muted when he says the name.

I think he was introduced as "The Minotaur" and the final name wasn't decided on until afterward.

This is one of those characters that I wish Heenan had still been in the WWF for. He would've had a field day with it on commentary. Honestly, he would've had a field day with most of the mid-90s WWF.

I really liked the guy. I was hoping he was going to have a good run at the rumble... then he really didn’t do much of anything.

Monsoon: Will you stop?!

this makes me wonder what is the match with the most amount of different commentaries, it would have to be English commentary only as the WWE now would be the answer with the amount of different languages, but for example this one, that's got 3! there has to be bigger matches that have had more.

Monsoon had to comment on that match twice.
Stan Lane was terrible. It's like hes the commentator for slow children who have a difficulty understanding basic concepts.
I wish I had audio of Vince going over mantaurs appearance backstage. I bet he was super into it "Hes gonna wear the full bull head all the way to the ring! Ha ha ha! And the fans are gonna eat it up! Ha! Theyll be taking pictures with their disposable cameras. Children will he crrrrryiiiiing! I love it!"

So what was the plan with Mantaur? Low budget WWF Vader created by people who had no idea why Vader got popular?

Kind of like how Bodydonna "Flip" got changed to "Zip," and they kept Sunny calling him by the former, to which Vince quickly yelled over, "Did she say his name's Zip?" and etc.

A minotaur is half-man, half-bull, so presumably a Mantaur is the child of a man and a minotaur, which would make him three-quarters man and only one-quarter bull.
I think we got ripped off, personally. I mean, Battle Kat was an entire cat.

According to Bruce Prichard Vince couldn't stop ranting about Mantaur's feet. He was obsessed with how big his feet were and kept insisting he, DOESN'T HAVE FEET, HE HAS HOOVES!!!

One of the (few) enjoyable things about the 95 Rumble is hearing Vince excitedly go on and on about Mantaur, how "even" Lex Luger is struggling to deal with him. He very blatantly really wants the idea to go over well, and it isn't.

I think there are multiple versions of the Hart/Flair title switch. I swear I remember one that had the Mooney/Hayes team. WWF @ Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Saskatchewan Center - October 12, 1992 WWF Superstars taping: Bret Hart defeated WWF World Champion Ric Flair (w/ Mr. Perfect) via submission with the Sharpshooter following a superplex to win the title at 26:29 ( Smack'em Whack'em, German Fan Favorites , Bret Hitman Hart: His Greatest Matches, WWE's Top 50 Superstars of All Time) Of those four, the first and last definitely have the same commentary from Hayes and Gorilla Monsoon. His Greatest Matches is on WWE Network, and I think it does, too. German Fan Favorites is the only one of them that could be different. The match didn't air on any of WWE's TV shows with English announcing, both in the U.S. and worldwide.

So what was the plan with Mantaur? Low budget WWF Vader created by people who had no idea why Vader got popular? Kevin Nash mentioned in one if his shoots that Vince was looking for some bigger guys they could build up as powerhouses in the mid card. Maybe not contenders for the world belt but guys who could maybe be IC level and help get babyfaces over. He actually said he was a fan of the gimmick with the bull head and said it was based off of an old wrestler from Big Time Wrestling in Detroit (Moose Cholak). But he said the guy was dead because during a match against Scort Hall as soon as he took the head off, Hall slapped him across the face and it pretty much killed any chance of getting him over as a threat
