Impact would be in a better state as he would have acted as a barrier against Russo and would have prevented him gaining a toxic foothold in the company in the Dixie era. There's no way Russo is employed while he's there after his involvement in the events that led to Owen's death. Why not? They worked together in WCW, where Russo immediately started pushing Bret about 10x harder than Bischoff ever did. Bret hates Russo, in WCW he had no choice but to do what he was told as he was tied to a binding contract, it wasn't something he did by choice. In TNA he would have had a lot more leverage to prevent Russo coming in. He refused to work with TNA while Russo was there during the period he was angry at the WWE. Not even his desire to spite Vince was enough to tolerate Russo.

I just can't see Bret Hart joining TNA. He made his money and I think WCW really just broke his spirit between the piss poor booking, the politics, and the fact he wasn't with Owen when the accident happened.
This will sound really strange, but in some ways, the stroke was beneficial to Bret Hart, the human being. He's seemingly let go of a lot of the anger and bitterness he had towards HBK and the WWE as a whole.

Not even his desire to spite Vince was enough to tolerate Russo. Looking up some Bret interviews, his negative comments about Russo seem to stem from Russo's style of booking with no mention of Owen's death or anything else that serious. He flat out said in one 2009 interview that he doesn't have any kind of personal grudge against Russo himself.

Would be interesting in the occasions they had worked shoots. Only imagine the things he'd say about 2002 Triple-H.
