Hey, did you know that the 1970 World's Fair was happening in Osaka, Japan?
I remember that coming up several times during the movie.
I also remember the real footage of the surgery on the elephant trunk... pretty graphic (and kind of disgusting) for a show directed at kids.

I liked this movie as I do most kaiju movies, but even little kid me thought Jiger had some bullshit powers. Shooting spikes, Light beams, larva injections, glue spew, flying... I mean come on. Pick 2 or maybe 3 and get on with it. Even Batman thinks Jiger had too many tricks.

This is one I never saw until much later since it never made the TV rounds when I was a kid and was hard (or in my case impossible) to find on video. When I finally did get around to seeing it I could see why... You know with the sorta questionable native people... And Gamera's forced pregnancy thing lololol. However, despite these I think it was a lot of fun when I finally saw it. Not just because it was a Gamera movie I had never seen, but we finally got a return to a little bit of city destruction (Which we didn't get much with Guiron/Zigra/Viras - which all seemed to take place on a bleak rockspace or on a beach). That and Jiger itself was at least sorta interesting, at least compared to Viras and Zigra (Who are basically the same!)... woof.
I do find it interesting that as far as I can remember it makes no appearance as stock footage of any kind in Gamera Super Monster. I know Jiger doesn't appear in the movie, but maybe some of the Gamera footage does. Like I wonder if there is some reason it didn't appear.... Strange. Gamera Super Monster is the bomb though, now you make me want to watch these two.

Well, they were filming at the place so they definitely wanted to sell it to the world. Also, yeah....i thought it best to not talk too much about real graphic stuff when dealing with the elephant footage

It will be a while....or next year because I dont want to do two franchise films in the same year like I did with the Schumacher Batman films.

By the way, I would still love suggestions to nominees for the summer induction polls.
