The overblown entrances (That live band? Being walked out to the ring by like a dozen people. Taking several minutes to get inside when the ramp can be walked in 20 seconds) The insistence on always blading. The fact that his theme has not only got a hook, but an choral intro. The stupid shit like that title match pledge and the goddamn neck tattoo.
The guy needs to be reigned in. I don't dislike his ring work. I think his promos are a bit too verbose, but they tend to be good. He (used to) have a good look. But his overall presentation is increasingly grating. I don't mind him being a featured player, but I'd like if it he was able to do it without this bizarre bag of tricks (Blood, coming out of the centre stage, that time he brought his dog out) that no one else gets.
And back to the title match pledge. That won't last, but while it does, the guy is officially isolated. Distinct from the rest of the roster. He'll get featured feuds and never challenge for the title, so it almost feels like he's being presented as the permanent 1B feud like The Undertaker used to be, but without any real need or justification.
I can only hope he's de-emphasised in favour of all AEW's great faces that don't look like actual dorks.

I’ve half joked that he’s def HHH mirror image as they both have that same type of vanity but yeah everything he does is over the top
However, the fans justify that position. He’s still their biggest babyface and their top star behind Jericho and maybe now Moxley
I think he should dial it back a bit but it’s almost become part of the charm at this point. This over the top shit will be golden whenever he turns heel but as of right now he still has the fans in the palms of his hands and they are buying into it so it’s working (at least until the tattoo fiasco)

Cody is one of my favorites in AEW but I can see why some would be put off by him. I like the old school feel he brings, he is their best Rep outside the ring. But I also see your point.

He's great as the heart and soul and as long as he's putting over new guys and staying away from the title, he's fine.

I think his work in AEW so far has been fantastic so couldn't disagree more with OP. One of the best pure babyfaces in wrestling today.

I get sick of Cody in places. I think the entrance at the PPV was fine, since it fit the story of the match for him to have all this big pomp and circumstance like his victory was a foregone conclusion just to blow it, but the heavenly choir before his music is really unneeded, especially when he's just doing a two minute squash or cutting a promo.

At least he's thankfully not booking himself to be an invincible super-wrestler, so there's that.

Did you notice that he stood in the ring and let a heel whip him with a belt and then put said heel over on PPV?

This proves you can't please everyone. Probably (discounting that horrible neck tattoo) the best babyface in the last 25 years. On his back, basically started a new promotion. Had the largest crowds for a non-WWE show in decades chanting his name. Has cut some all time babyface promos, getting these huge reactions, creating interest in things where there is just apathy. Having these amazing matches.
I am not sick of Cody, and he the best thing to happen to my pro-wrestling fandom since 1997.

I don't know why blood is being counted as part of a bag of tricks nobody else gets when the main event of Revolution had Mox bleeding, Cody didn't even bleed in his own match, and we've had multiple non-Cody outright deathmatches on cards. He's also not isolated fromthe crd; maybe he can't challenge for the belt, but there's a ton of people not challenging for the belt right now. Cody is doing his thing as a big throwback to old school big drama territory era stuff, and he's honestly done a great job with it. The audience is there for it, and he's not done anything to make himself a pariah or push himelf too much over everyone else, taking the loss to MJF after building up such a big babyface struggle to win. Cody being a 1B guy who gets to spin his old school thread is honestly the best place for him right now.

I have very little issue with Cody, really my only problem is skin deep and I'll just get used to it eventually.

I've gotten to the point where I just laugh at him. He's mini-Triple H in almost every way.

I always thought that them over the top entrances and other flashy shit was basically a piss take on the fact people see him as the H of AEW. Then that tattoo happened.
But yeah, not sick of him at all. Biggest babyface at the moment and his programs in AEW thus far have been from great to excellent.

I love Cody, he's a great wrestler, an insane promo, and has a great connection with the fans.
I can totally agree on the entrances though. His elevator entrance doesn't need to exist every single time he appears... I don't mind it as his designated PPV entrance, but he doesn't need the entire stage to transform just to go to the ring and cut a promo.
Plus, his real entrance doesn't start until "Wrestling has more than one royal family" so everything up to that point is needless on a weekly basis.

Only thing I dislike about him is that dumb tattoo on his neck now. Otherwise he's IMO the best in-ring storyteller in wrestling today and the only guy that comes close is his fellow Elite running buddy Kenny Omega (and that gap is closing now after two incredible matches from Kenny in a week's span). The crowd eats out of the palm of his hand, an amazing promo, and he's a really easy guy to root for on top of it.
And unlike other people who have the perception of being booker-wrestler, he actually puts people over.
