Both happened within a month of each other. Both were proceeded by tons of hype. Both are considered all-time creative flops for their respective companies.
But which one do you think is the crappier of the one-two crap punch?

the Black Scorpion was at least done in the furtherance of a story line and had a payoff, crappy though it was
the Gooker on the other hand...

At least the Black Scorpion was like, a wrestler. The Gobbledy Gooker was just a dumb-looking turkey. My vote's gotta be for the Gooker.

Scorpion was an angle that honestly wasn't any cornier or worse than anything else of that era. It being Flair was kind of lame, but they pretty clearly didn't have any real pay-off as any of the other candidates would have been underwhelming too. It was just an angle to have an opponent for Sting. As such, it worked.
Gooker was dumb on every level.

Black Scorpion was a dumb gimmick.
Gooker was such a bad concept, that it's the name of the award for the worst/dumbest thing in pro wrestling in any given year.

Black Scorpion at least had a point and a goal. A shitty point and goal, but a wrestling goal nonetheless.

Black Scorpion at least had a point and a goal. A shitty point and goal, but a wrestling goal nonetheless. Right. Like, I'd love to talk to whoever was behind the Gooker and ask them around the time, "Okay, so even if people did pop for this, what then? They can't wrestle in that costume." I genuinely have no idea what the potential upside would have been even if this hadn't fallen on its face. Maybe if it was a Swagger Soaring Eagle kind of thing, where it's intentionally goofy, that'd be fine, but he didn't even seem to be set up to be someone's mascot.

“Awwww, look at that, the kids love’em. The Gobbledy Gooker should be the official mascot of Survivor Series.” -Roddy Piper
Those few lines have haunted me since childhood. It was such a phenomenal letdown when that damn turkey hatched from the egg.

Black Scorpion, because they could have done a lot more with that.
Gooker was a dumb one night thing, although in hindsight, the idea of a bird emerging from the egg made perfect sense.

I agree with Hit Girl, which oddly makes me feel like a comic book character saying that. The Gooker was a one segment things that, while silly, was ultimately harmless.
The Black Scorpion was a near year long thing. I recently watched the WCW PPVs and Clash of Champions from that year and they did a segment dedicated to him on each show and he was doing freaking magic tricks. What puts this over the top for me is that this was also the world title program. This whole thing was built up to be Sting vs. the Black Scorpion for the WCW world title. The Gooker had no stakes to it, thus it didn't drag anyone down. The Scorpion was built up to reveal that Sting's first big title rivalry post Ric Flair was...Ric Flair.

According to Bruce Prichard on STWW it was supposed to be a year-round mascot for the company. I watched an episode of either Wrestling Challenge or Superstars on YouTube a couple years back and sure enough the Gooker was promoted for an appearance at the Boston Garden for a house show not long after Survivor Series. So it wasn't just a one-night thing, or at least it wasn't intended to be. Also, the nine-year-old in me still thinks the Black Scorpion is awesome. Lol 🤫

Gooker was dumb, but he was a mascot who was gone shortly after his debut.
Black Scorpion was in the main event, going for titles.

I like the whole Black Scorpion angle. Silly, sure, but I thought it was great.
What the f*** was the point of the gooker?

I'll say the Scorpion because the Gooker was just one segment but the Black Scorpion wasted months of everyone's time.

The Gooker; there was an idea behind the Black Scorpion at least, even if there was no end goal and it seemed as if it was being made up as it went on. The Gooker was a painfully unfunny skit that was bad even by 1990 WWF standards.

Unfortunately Hector Guerrero has never wrestled any of the guys under the Black Scorpion mask so we will never know

I'll say the Scorpion because the Gooker was just one segment but the Black Scorpion wasted months of everyone's time. That does not take into account just how much time was spent on that stupid egg.
