So let me get this right... they set Velveteen Dream up for a title match with Adam Cole by intentionally losing to Roderick Strong? How backwards is that?

Dream's going to put Britt Baker's face on his tights with "Fix my teeth, Britt" on the ass.

I was never as on the Dreamwagon as a lot of others were, but I got why he had it. But he’s a channel changer for me since his comeback. I really wish someone else was going against Cole.
Like flip Dream and Keith Lee and I would be hype AF.

He's going to need a custom belt if he wins. Somebody as colorful as Dream holding such a bland looking title just doesn't look right.

The Machiavelveteen Scheme...
*Get Strong's dander up by referencing his family so he gets angry enough to accept a cage match, because he knows it'll eventually draw out the rest of the group, but Strong's pride and ego insists that he tries to do it on his own first *This allows him to wear down Strong over the course of the match with his own ability, and as long as he stays in the match, the plan is on track. They'll only come out when Strong is about to lose *Cut off Fish and O'Reilly when UE inevitably try to interfere (fortunately, they were slightly fatigued after their own match earlier in the night), but draw Cole into the ring. This is the tricky part because he'd have to make sure Strong is fatigued enough that he can get enough in on the 100% fresh Cole to get HIM down *Strong has now outlived his usefulness, so throw him out of the ring, officially ending the match, and have your way with the bigger prize *Profit
Yeah, it's proper galaxy brain stuff.

Exactly, Roddy was never the prize. Roddy was the means to the end, Dream wanted Cole. So he plays mind games with Roddy, pissing him off, and in turn pissing off UE even more. They're not thinking clearly, and the moment comes that Dream gets what he's wanted the entire time, he's been playing chess. He drew the king out into the open, by taking on everything else.

I liked it. Why fight some dude with no prize waiting for you at the end of it when the world champion is right there?

Wait, wouldn't this hurt his chances of getting a title match? NXT doesn't typically do the overly WWE tropey promo your way into a title match thing, right?
I'm guessing he'll be winning some matches to actually get the shot, cause none of this makes sense. But even then... wouldn't it be better to just win and then make the claim? Is this what madness people call 4D chess?

It was pretty brilliant and seperated how Dream approaches his chance at Cole different from Ciampa who is just a preverbial train that just comes at you head on.
It is things like this that just give guys and gals a bit more character that give them specific traits and how they approach situations differently.
I expect Dream to make a dentist appointment next week in order to get into Coles head.

I liked it. By throwing Strong out of the cage sure he lost the match but he won the feud.
Locking himself in the cage with Cole with three guys in the outside was a ballsy move and it paid off.
Wither he has to win a number one contenders match or Cole demands to wrestle him at Take Over doesn’t matter.
Tonight was booked perfectly.

Like, I don't recall him doing anything to deserve a title match outside of that. So I guess there is precedent here.

Yeah, but they were also friends, so you could argue he set up the match by hurting Zayn and taking advantage of his anger to fast track his title match.

For sure, but they also could have just had a match without the title on the line. I get why they didn't, because then they'd have Sami likely losing twice, but in kayfabe, it still amounts to beating up the champion for a freebie title shot.

But that was the basis of Owen's 'prize fighter' line. He specifically said he'd never face Sami unless the belt was on the line.

I actually think it’s brilliant. Like he was blatantly using Strongs family to get Strong to escalate it to the the point that a cage match made sense to Undisputed. He knows that Undisputed will get involved and when the moment is right he gets his hands on what he really wanted. Adam Cole.
It’s genius!

This. It's actually really brilliant, and I love this is how they're starting the feud. Dream has always been about mind games, so it would make sense he'd play the long con to get his shot at the NXT Title. If he were to get a title shot, this is exactly how he'd do it character-wise. It's really good storytelling.

Lucky for Velvy, wins and losses aren’t really a barometer in NXT.

Lucky for Velvy, wins and losses aren’t really a barometer in NXT. And even if it was, any promotion worth their salt would at least take his 2019 W/L record under consideration (a very respectable 12-4-0) given he had a long-term injury and hasn’t had enough matches yet in 2020 to accumulate a strong W/L record (which currently sits at 1-1-0).

Rewarding a character for losing, and intentionally at that, is a huge problem in WWE's booking psychology. Whoever has been booking Velveteen Dream since he came back should be questioned publicly.

I just don't understand why if he wants his hands on Adam Cole he didn't just... Go after Adam Cole. Why count on yourself to be able to stand tall in a four-on-one fight?
