I was brought face-to-face with my own sense of nostalgia by this thread below: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/598215/strange-booking-wrestling-classicand wanted to know if anyone else might be intrigued if those responsible were to book something similar in 2020. I would suggest, as I said in the thread, that it would be very much a case of "throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks," and basically being the test for who would do well for the company if pushed. The participants for the tournament could be picked at random from all three brands (or possibly four, if we want to include NXT:UK) and then have one long old slog to the final. I know, I know: it will be ruined. But the randomness of the mix, and hopefully the announce team's proper focus on the matches and the bracketing can sell this as something either as a Network-based alternative to 'Mania (if that gets cancelled) or possibly for something afterwards.

Isn't that what the Greatest Royal Rumble was? And what (IMO) the Saudi shows since should have been? Just one-offs and not a regular part of "continuity"...

I was thinking more of a "This Tuesday in Texas" for being part of continuity while still not being an ongoing event; or, like, the original Wrestling Classic which, while not apparently part of the continuity of late 1985, still presented a group of established and upcoming stars in a newish way (aka a tournament format).

And without the whole “King” gimmick for the winner. I love tournaments, so I’d be all for it.

Surprised they don’t do sporadic Saturday Night’s Main event shows on the network.

Maybe not exactly the same, but it's a massive waste of the network that they don't run televised house shows where they can try out whatever wacky shit the wrestlers want to do.
