So Amber Heards career seems hosed...

She's about to be fired from Aquaman 2 and several other movies apparently.....this all because she said Depp abused her and now all the proof has shifted and says she actually abused him going so far as to cut off the tip of his finger and taking a dump in his bed. I guess this should be a valuable lesson, lie about abuse and the backlash is going to be pretty hard.

This entire situation seems weird as hell but now the fire is on her.

I'm actually surprised Johnny Depp's career didn't get hurt too much from the initial allegations. He got the online lynch mobs, yes, but I don't think he got fired from anything. There was even a cologne commercial he was in before the allegations, and it still ran on TV in the months since.

Yes, he did. IIRC the cat got fired from POTC and lost out on a bunch of roles stemming from it. I could be wrong.

In 2018 the developers were alluding to a sixth film still with Depp, then came the announcement of a reboot without Depp, earlier this month it was apparently announced he’s now set to return as Sparrow.

Yeah Depp's career was hurt by these accusations but it's hard to know the exact impact. Roles that he never got are different from being fired from various films. I can't help but wonder why he and his people didn't handle this differently. I don't recall much in the way of vehement denials once Heard's allegations hit the news. Perhaps he was under a court order to not talk about it in public? But it did let the allegations against him frame public opinion.

One other thing with Depp is that he's just past his prime as a draw. He hasn't had a hit in forever really. But at least he can say at one point he was the biggest star in the world. If Amber Heard's career was done tomorrow I doubt many people would notice or care.

Almost all of it came to light during their divorce, so making public statements while that was still in progress would've complicated matters in the courtroom. Once the divorce was finalised Depp and Heard put out a joint statement that essentially brushed any suggestion of abuse under the carpet, and likely one of the conditions of the settlement that neither party would talk about it. I'd not be surprised if Depp just accepted the heat just to get her out of his life and move on.

Since then, of course, Heard went and talked about it in the Washington Post and Depp slapped her with a $50 million defamation suit, which is as vehement a denial as one can make.

This whole thing with Depp being revealed to have been the abused has.....been out there for a couple months, I thought.

Latest I heard was that Heard hired a private investigator to dig up dirt (past instances of abuse & slander to others) on him...........and they found nothing.

There was also a movie he was involved in making in some way, whether starring or producing I believe, that was kicked back and refused release.

I think he had other personal issues with drugs which may have effected his behaviour in terms of reacting to the accusation, although I'm far from certain on that.

As for the backlash against her, good. False accusations hurt the real victims of abuse who will get tarred with the same brush as this.

Really sucks to see what has become of her because I remember watching her for the first time in All the boys love Mandy Lane and thinking she was gorgeous and gonna be a big star because she was great in that movie.

At risk of being that guy, I think Depp's fall from grace had less to do with the assault allegations and more to do with a vast majority of the movies he was doing just sucking out loud.

That said I am glad for him that this seems to have at least on some level been cleared up.

Sounds about right - Depp actually paid her $7 million to settle the divorce. Given there's clear evidence that he was actually the abuse victim it does reek of him putting up very little fight to just get everything over with quickly.

The 4th and 5th ones kinda underperformed already (Because let's face it, aside from being a natural finale to a trilogy World's End also sucked), so I'm betting they figured a 6th was only gonna do worse
