The New Generation were a (very) short-lived tag team in Memphis, comprised of Bart Batten & Johnny Wilhoit. Hoping to recreate some of the Fabulous Ones magic, a music video was created using a very popular song of the time to hype their upcoming debut and, well....we got this:

The music does not fit at all.

I get that the folks in the Memphis office in 1984 weren't up on gay culture but jebus! It's one of the most homoerotic thing I've ever seen.

It's like someone sent their homemade gay porn to America's Funniest Home Videos and instead of rejecting it they edited out all the nudity and just aired it anyway.

Nothing like two bros riding on a motorcycle together and taking a romantic carriage ride.
Combined with that song.....they had to know. lol

I have been so in love with this video for years. It's like the sort of thing you'd encounter on Tim & Eric Awesome Show. It's just got this really bizarre vibe and even in the 80s I have no idea how anyone thought this could have come across as genuinely cool, but thank god they did so I could watch it over and over again. It's fascinating and hilarious.

This song should never be used for a tag team, has to be used for a single wrestler, because it is about a boy, singular, so gramaticly incorrect.

Even weirder to me seeing only one Batten Twin. Figured they never worked without eachother.

What would it take to convince Hangman and Omega to recreate this shot for shot?
Preferably at the Hardy Compound with Matt or Señor Benjamin as the carriage driver.

I'd argue that the SMW Rock America video for the Thrillseekers was worse, since the shirtless shots at least show that they actually look like wrestlers, while the Thrillseekers video just looks like two guys hanging around an arcade (and the song is called Rock America, for two Canadians): www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoidl4m0zP4

There's another veeeeeeeery homoerotic video from Memphis from the same period for Austin Idol where it shows him working out shirtless in very skimpy shorts. The camera pans up and stops for a full second on his crotch.

I’m trying to figure out why I remember this. I was too young and didn’t have access to Memphis. Guessing it was a throw in on a traded tape

The shirtless buggy ride is where it goes to a whole new level.
Part of me thinks it had to have been a rib, and another part thinks that Lawler/Jarrett were just insanely off on what they thought "cool" looked like.

If you've seen a decent number of Memphis vignettes like this....yeah, they thought it was cool. It worked for the Fabulous Ones there and the only thing that set their video apart was a much better song (ZZ Top).

I can't tell if it's just the poor tape quality, but the blonde guy looks like he's wearing a shitty disguise/wig

I know Bryan and Vinny reviewed this in detail a long while ago and I was gasping for air from laughing. I think the big problem these guys had is that Bart Batten (I think?) has the most 1980s stereotypical white trash heel look with the blonde hair and dark beard. He makes various "tough" faces in the video and just overall looks like he'd be better as a heel than as a supposed pretty boy babyface.
One thing people forget about the Fabulous Ones is that they dressed up like goofs and made those ridiculous videos, but once the bell rang they had vicious tough guy brawls with teams like the Sheepherders or Moondogs.
