Somewhere around late 1998 or into 1999, I was still living outside of Tyler, Texas. While there, I learned a local trading card shop was going to be bringing in the Bogus Sting from the NWO for a signing. I was acquaintances with the shop owner and even agreed to promote the signing at the store I worked at, making and putting up a couple of flyers advertising it (being very sure to note clearly that it was the NWO Bogus Sting and not the real Sting). Anyway, the day of the event arrives and I head down to the shop. We're standing in line and it turns out he's running late, had trouble connecting with his ride from the airport. While waiting the line grows to about 100 people, but after me and a couple of others explain that it's not going to be THE Sting, just the fake that was in the NWO, about 2/3's of them disappeared and went home. Anyway, he finally gets there, spends a few minutes in the back getting his make-up on, and walks out. And we get this: That is most assuredly not Jeff Farmer, the WCW jobber that they put in the Bogus Sting gimmick. No, it's some other guy, and he's wearing...well, you can see how half-assed his get-up is. Anyway, almost as soon as it hits everyone what's going on, 90% of the rest of the line that was still there bails. Obviously disappointed, I stuck around because...I don't know why, honestly. Talking to the shop owner, turns out this guy's real name is Nick...something, I forget. And he has 8x10s he's signing that are for a guy from AAA named Kro 2000, and signing them and the Polaroids with that name: Honestly, I've never been certain that this bogus Bogus Sting was even the real Kro 2000. The two pics don't exactly look like the exact same guy, but we're talking a promo pic vs. "just woke up" too. Looking online now, I only see three results for anyone named Kro 2000 (well, Kro Dos Mil), so he must have had a spectacular career: Anyway, that's my Bogus Bogus Sting story. I didn't even mention the part where he misspelled my name on both the Polaroid and the 8x10...

I remember you mentioning this story before, but I'm glad you are giving us a much more detailed version.
The fake Sting is already damn hard to advertise for, but having a guy pretending to be him is a gymnastic flip of ripping off people.
Its amazing what you could get away with pre-widespread use of the internet.

I just found a small pic of Kro 2000 over at a place called luchawiki, and they literally have nothing else on him but the one pic: I remember you mentioning this story before, but I'm glad you are giving us a much more detailed version. The fake Sting is already damn hard to advertise for, but having a guy pretending to be him is a gymnastic flip of ripping off people. Its amazing what you could get away with pre-widespread use of the internet. Hell, it's still a problem, but yeah, not as severe as back then. I'd just like to find out more about him. I'm willing to bet he never actually worked AAA proper and the 8x10 is something he had made without their consent. Does anyone recognize the belt(s) he's holding in the 8x10 and the online pic? And that's definitely the same background in both the 8x10 and the online pic, same big letters on the wall.

Man the nerve of some people to try and get one over on fans. I hope he learned something from most of the fans leaving but I'm sure with being delusional as he seems that he would just think they all left for another reason unrelated to him. This is a guy who would even embarrass Brimstone.

This is a guy who would even embarrass Brimstone. There have been so many that were much worse. Bruce "Hangman" Pobanz, Kacey Dexter Godbold are two. This guy at least had *some* sort of actual career, even if it was in third-rate bordertown lucha shows.

Two off the top of my head that come to mind are one indy show I went to a guy was playing Kamala Jr. and IIRC he either only had photos of James Harris Kamala or he had those for sale as well. I don't remember him doing any business.
Another would be Vladimir Koloff although he did work with Ivan Koloff for a bit so that's better than just ripping off a gimmick. Both my aunt and my grandmother went to one of his Wal Mart signings and got me a signed 8x10. I was so disappointed even though their hearts were in the right place. For years Ivan had done Wal Mart signings as a way to fund raise for a children's charity. At some point Vladimir broke off on his own so I wonder if it was advertised as a charity signing and/or if he kept all money for himself.

If it's the same Kamala Jr I'm thinking of, he's a legit worker. Also went by the names Kunta and, sigh, Brother Love (but not doing that gimmick, just sharing the name). He had a fairly decent indy career, got a run in Memphis during its dying days, I believe, mostly relegated to Louisiana and Mississippi areas. Actually worked some shows with the original in his corner. But all that is only if it's the same Kamala Jr.

I do seem to remember Kamala Jr. from one of the "Apter Mags" around the late 1990s.

That's one of the big problems with Kamala Klones - there's a massive shit-ton of legit ones but it's also an easy gimmick to "claim" without ever working in the business.

He was on the SWA TV show a few times month or so back. Madison is the Brother Love you are talking about have a cockeye? The one I mentioned does. Nice dude. Told us some great stories about finding out the North MS fed he worked for a few times was owned by a certain group in the south that likes to wear hoods.

Couldn't tell you now about the eye, I only ever saw a couple of matches of his as Kunta and that was two decades ago. Sadly, dead websites and stolen harddrives have wiped away my entire "Kamala Klone Family" work many years ago, so I can't even pull up the screengrabs I had to check. I only ever heard of him using the name Brother Love, never saw it. Probably the same guy, just didn't realize he was still around since I hadn't heard reference to him in a very long time.

My favorite Kamala Klone was Honkey Kong. It was such a goofy getup, but I like that he had the DK tie on.

Had this big family tree-style thing I did, again 20 years ago, connecting all the Kamala rip-offs and such, and there were a lot even then. Uganda/Botswana Beast/Kimala 2 (Ben Peacock), the aforementioned Kunta, Stan "Uncle Elmer" Frazier as Kamala II, Prince Kamalamala...wish I could remember more now.

I will ask him. He kinda disappeared for a bit.Reappeared in MCW with some other dude as Bruise Brothers 2000 managed by PorkChop Cash. Then disappeared again reappearing on SWA TV. I think he made 2 tv tapings.

He was in the opening match of a BIW show back in 2013. No one knew who he or his opponent were. But 5 minutes into the match the crowd was chanting HONKY HONKY.

I remember Uganda (or Kamala II) in Japan and even an appearance in ECW where he wrestled RVD. I'm pretty sure he made Hardcore TV with his match with RVD. Don't think he ever tried to pass himself off as the famous Kamala/James Harris. They teamed with each other in Japan.
The idea of a Fake Fake Sting is hilarious. His hair/wig is even more hilarious.

Sorry, wasn't implying Peacock (Uganda) tried to pass himself off as the original, just that he was one of the many clones. They originally teamed in World Class for a brief time when Peacock was Botswana Beast.

I remember I went to a wrestling show back around 2001. It was full of ripoff WWE guys. Like there was a bootleg Stone Cold and a bootleg Undertaker but the one thing I'll never forget is the bootleg Kane.
He had the full original ring gear complete with mask. And he tops it off with a f***ing afro. I still laugh when I think about it.
I wish I had pictures but I can't find anything about it online.
