So Target the other week had a blu ray sale where you could buy 1 and get one free. They had the first 5 MI movies in a set for 25 bucks so I grabbed that and the 6th one for my fee one as for some reason I had never owned them.
Just completed a rewatch and gotta say, it's one of the most consistently good movie franchises of the last 25 years. Every movie is at least good. I wouldn't say there's a single GREAT movie in the bunch but they're consistent popcorn movies all the way through.
You know if you go to see a MI movie, you're gonna get fun action, interesting locales, and great stuntwork in an enjoyable 2 hour package.
Tom Cruise and co should be rightly proud of that.

Agreed they are all good to decent. Although MI 2 does take ages to get going.
How would you rank them?

That's a good question. Another rare thing is that the later ones are probably better than the first few.
Right now I'd probably go:
4 6 1 5 3 2

Still haven’t seen 6, but the rest of them are entertaining. 4 is actually really good, almost great. I’ve got the 5 pack on Blu Ray as well, good time killer.
4 5 1 3
2
2 isn’t terrible, but it’s the weak link by far. 4 is clearly the best, and I wouldn’t argue with any order for 1,3,5

I love the Mission Impossible series. 2 is kind of meh, but all of the others are a fun time.

I've honestly never seen any after the first one, which I absolutely adore. Bing Rhames' "Hi there" was a running joke in my family for years.
Are any of these on any streaming services in the States?

Yeah, I saw the first 4 in theaters. Haven't seen the last one yet, but I usually watch when they're on tv.
M:I 2 is probably most famous for f***ing Dougray Scott out of playing Wolverine.

2’s obviously the black sheep (and it keeps aging worse and worse too as the series gets better and better.) 1 comes off as quaint these days, but there’s something about the directing approach I really, really like. Feels..like its own thing that can’t be replicated these days. III is very fun. Abrams ran on all cylinders as far as the action and pacing and PSH carries the f*** out of it. Ghost Protocol really takes it to another level with finding a tone between light and seriousness, awesome set pieces, and the great inclusion of Renners character and Hunts core group. How or why Brad Bird doesn’t direct more films is beyond me. Really liked Rogue Nation. Love Rebecca Ferguson’s character as a contrast to Ethan’s. McQuarries style isn’t as fun as Birds but it feels more finessed. And Fallout was just badass. All the set pieces, the story, the pacing, Baldwin’s performance, Cavils inclusion as Walker, and a really solid ending has me hyped for whatever the f*** they do in 7 and 8. Yeah, I saw the first 4 in theaters. Haven't seen the last one yet, but I usually watch when they're on tv. M:I 2 is probably most famous for f***ing Dougray Scott out of playing Wolverine. And Fallout cheekily refused to let Cavill shave his mustache, having the makers of Justice League spend an obscene amount of money (and doing a shitty job) on removing it digitally. Mission Impossible Series for the last 20 years: f*** them superheroes!

I do find it fascinating that the series now is almost based on what kind of crazy stunt Tom Cruise does for real, but they also surround it with a good story, fun acting, and other awesome action set pieces to round it out. 2 is fine, but it really shows its age. Could argue that it is the best action franchise ever just because there isn't a dud in the bunch.

Great series. Not a bad entry amongst them, though the first two are definitely very much of their times. The first has aged better than the second, but both are still solid movies with some great set pieces. I'd say the overarching story linking Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation and Fallout puts them in the running for the best action movie trilogy of all time. And Fallout cheekily refused to let Cavill shave his mustache, having the makers of Justice League spend an obscene amount of money (and doing a shitty job) on removing it digitally. Mission Impossible Series for the last 20 years: f*** them superheroes! Man, I rewatched the first scene of that movie today, and I'd completely forgotten just how awful a job they did removing Cavill's facial hair. He looks terrifying!

Henry Czerny is always a fun scumbag. He was great in Clear and Present Danger as well. Seemed like he just fell off the earth for a long time. That said, the first Mission Impossible movie has always been kinda meh to me. It just never leaves first gear and I always loathed the Jim Phelps plot twist. It's like if you watched the original series and Peter Graves did a heel turn.
I have to admit MI2 was better than I remembered. The 3rd was really not as good as I remembered. But really I wouldn't say the series hit any sort of stride until the 4th film, although it has always had a problem with lame heels. Other than Phillip Seymour Hoffman I wouldn't say any bad guy in these movies has been memorable at all.

I'm excited to see how Kittridge comes back in. I figure he's playing the villain, as there's not an obvious person amongst the cast who sticks out as an antagonist... though Ethan's old boss hanging onto a 25-year grudge seems a little too obvious and mundane for these movies. I wouldn't be surprised if Atwell's the villain, though. These movies haven't had a female lead antagonist yet, and equally her playing another heroic secret agent also seems a little too obvious. I always loathed the Jim Phelps plot twist. It's like if you watched the original series and Peter Graves did a heel turn. IIRC Peter Graves turned down reprising the role specifically because of the Phelps twist, and a couple of the original cast actually walked out of the world premiere before the movie ended because of it. Martin Landau and Leonard Nimoy were also very critical, and I believe Landau also turned down an offer to reprise.

I don't think he'd be a villain, since everything was patched up in M:I 1, with him realizing it was Phelps and not Hunt who was behind everything.

You know, the only one I haven't given a full watch to was the second film. It's also been so long since I've watched them. Hell, I don't think I've given some of them a second viewing, and usually I do repeated viewings of certain movies. I have the first three on DVD in a boxed set that I bought at Big Lots a while back. Maybe I'll give that a watch. I think I should also order 4 and 6 to complete the collection because I have Rogue Nation somewhere.

I'm a sucker for John Woo films, and MI2 is no exception. It's the cheesiest one of the entire series by far, but hell if I don't have a soft spot for it (especially with its ridiculously stupid Limp Bizkit rendition of the main theme, lol).

I forgot about that. Didn't Metallica do a song for M:I 2 as well? How you go from the guys in U2 to Limp Bizkit is a hell of a step down. It would have been cool though, if for each movie, they had a different band or group put their spin on the theme. Like how the Bond movies have their title songs.

My order woulr probably be:
5 4 1 6 3 2
I really enjoyed 5, overall apart from 2 (where apart from some free climbing not a lot happens in the first hour) I would say they are all decent.
