And my heart is breaking.
There is a part of me that had feared something like this would happen...but in Halifax, the largest city in this part of the world, not in some little spot at the crook of the Bay of Fundy. Nobody could have predicted the calcùlation, the long think that buying and revamping a car to resemble an RCMP cruiser, then either making or having made a convincing-enough RCMP uniform would require. They're still processing the crime scenes, and the current tally stands, so far, at 19.
Somehow all talk of going back to normal has gone out the window. For the loved ones of the victims, normal is gone forever.
MOD NOTE: DO NOT POST THE MURDERER'S NAME OR VIDEOS NAMING HIM ON THIS BOARD. DOING SO OR EVEN PURPOSELY LINKING TO SUCH WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE BAN - Madison

Read about this yesterday. Can count on some to be complete monsters even when a lot of the species is pulling together.
Sorry for what you’re going through. Somehow, someday, it’s going to get better.

So the victim count has gone up since I read about this last night. Such a crazy story. May the sick f*** that did this rot.

I live 30km from where it started.
My friend's cousin was killed. Sister's friend was shot but thankfully survived. Lots of friend's friends were killed.
I have no words other than everyone is destroyed.

Such a terrifying situation, it's honestly one of the most f***ed up things I've read about in a long time.

As I said somewhere else, even with "19" everywhere, life goes on, for better AND for worse, unfortunately.

Edit: I started writing this about an hour ago and therefore did not see Hey Yo’s post. My intent was to put a personal human face on these type of events, while he can do so for this particular event.
I tend to try not to internalize such things, but your phrasing sort of triggered me. I had a friend whose mother was murdered in the middle of a 2 state killing spree in 1998. The first kill was a couple of tweakers killing their friend over meth. The second kill was a Amish boy working his fields who the tweakers did not get along with when they were all still in school.
My friend’s mom was murdered because she owned a car one of them wanted. She was shot in the face after giving them the keys to her car and left with her little girl in the other room, which is how things stayed for a few hours until a deputy looking for two murdering assholes drove by the house and spotted their mother’s body through the open front door.
The killing spree ended in Illinois, where those douches started randomly ambushing people in rural communities before getting tracked down by the cops. One of them either shot himself in the head or POS #2 shot him instead before surrendering (this was never determined and Shitstain refused to ever discuss his friend’s death). For the record, the one who murdered my friend’s mom is the one currently serving several life sentences.
It’s worth keeping in mind the survivors, as those can be the real sad stories. I haven’t seen my friend in years, but it was a tough time for sure. He was a high school senior who had a mountain of responsibility foisted on him. His father had passed years ago and his stepfather was pretty worthless before the murder started him drinking heavily. He was not prepared to handle the things that his stepfather should have been handling, especially when his sister (not the baby, but a freshman in high school) turned to drugs herself to cope. She ran away from home eventually and was homeless for a bit until her friend’s family took her in. I heard it was a bit rough for a while even after that.
Im sorry to derail this thread, but far too often in these events we all hear the numbers and think, “That’s horrible”, but we don’t truly think of the human suffering that goes into such things. If we all did, maybe we’d change some things. Instread, we just shake our heads and wait for the next opportunity to be shocked.

I heard this sick f*** even dressed as a cop while he was doing this. Even had a car tricked out to resemble an RCMP cruiser. The cops were clear to state that it was only a mock-up, but it is possible to purchase decommissioned police cruisers (with the detailing removed) at auction. Not many people would have noticed a difference; the police even had to point out a code on the side of the car to warn people to call 911 if they saw that code. There are rumours about motive (and about his first victims), but it was clearly more and more random as time went on.

I'm still in utter shock over this. I will say I like how the media is fosucing on the victims and barely mentioning the piece of shit who did this by name. He deserves to be unpersoned.

Seems to me like it was a very calculated plan, but that other then the first few victims it was totally random targets. It’s a really disturbing situation, some of the stories I’ve read are horrifying in how he enacted his attacks. Usually with something like this, the shooter tends to attack randoms to escape, get them out of the way etc, this guy was making sure to execute everyone he came across. F***ing terrifying.

Even though I'm from PEI, this is still frightening to me considering that it's still so close to home.

As of yet, there's been no official release of information as to the killer's motive, but it has been reported that the killer ran a small business that had to shut down because of the pandemic...
I also want to give a note of thanks to the media for not publishing the killer's name (anymore). The PM said it in his daily 'national address', don't give this killer that fame he may have been seeking.

There are about sixteen crime scenes identified. Some were buildings that were set ablaze or suffered explosions, that couldn't be extinguished because the firefighters couldn't know whether the shooter was still nearby.

When it comes to naming the killer, I'm of two minds.
1) Yeah, f*** 'em. Don't give them the attention.
And
2) You have to name them, then hopefully people that knew him will come forward and help with the investigation.
The victims should always be front and center, but there is value to putting the perpetrator's name and picture out there. You certainly don't have to focus on them though. But people would like answers as to how and why they did it to try and prevent future instances.

I live in Halifax myself, out in Spryfield.
I don't know...I feel weirdly detached from the whole thing. Maybe it's because it happened outside the city. It's objectively the worst of these to ever happen here, but I just don't feel connected to it. It's weird.
