This is from the Lutte promotion out of Montreal in 1985. It was the rookie year of the man who would go on to be Rikishi, under the name Alofa the Polynesian Prince (a name his cousin LA Smooth would use later on as well). Absolutely stunning to see how much he changed physically from this to what we know.

But, his size still changed a lot in a few years after this and his sons were in a period of time when they got flabby as well before they toned up and have been in great shape since the heel turn a few years back

What’s the brotha going to do, he’s Samoan.
More seriously Polynesian peoples as a whole genetically pack on the pounds, I would imagine that it has something to do with their large bones and in ancient times when they were traveling the Pacific and their bodies adapted with fat stores for those long trips where they couldn’t always eat like they would at home on their islands.
Good to see that he was still using the ass attack even back when he was Uso size. haha

His ass didn't look nearly as good back then.

BOING!
He looks great. On one hand it's a shame that he went from this to what he ended up as, but on the other his most successful gimmick wouldn't have happened without the weight gain, and if he hadn't become Rikishi then would he have been doomed to a career as yet another Anoa'i family islander/savage gimmick?

Looks nothing like him. I like how his opponents manager looks like the generic prick heel manager 101.

I got Rikishi and Tonga Kid confused so much as a kid. I thought they were the same person for awhile until I saw them together for a short bit in WCW when had a three person Samoan Swat Team. Turns out they're twins. Easy enough to tell them apart now that I'm older and have seen more of them.

Wonder if he ever wrestled Steve Strong. Not seeing anything with him working either Steve Strong (the late 70s-mid 80s one that looked like Hulk Hogan or the one from Stampede aka Steve DiSalvo/Minotaur)

The implications of this thread title had me a little concerned if I'm being honest...

Eddie "The Brain" Creechman sighting! He always annoyed me as a kid, whether it was as the manager for seemingly all Montreal based heels or the Detroit based Sheik. Cane, cigar and garbled promos in English in a way only a Quebecois can do is what I remember most.
