I'm sure Apollo reacted to this terrible news the same way he does to everything: with a big smile.

I will say, he came off as super sympathetic when he was on crutches in the back. Man was heartbroken like you really would be if you got hurt in the middle of the biggest run of your life.

To paraphrase Mike Royko: Some look at a half glass of water as half empty. Others view it as half full. Apollo Crews sees it and wonders when it’s going to spill.

Big picture, Andrade most likely takes his place and when Apollo comes back, he goes after Andrade and likely wins the title, which does him more good in the long run. "Big picture" and "long run" don't really apply to anything in WWE's booking anymore. If circumstances were normal, sure. But right now, they have a limited amount of toys and are taping. Long term is essentially their only option. Especially if they want to keep eyes on their product.

His abrupt end? That may be one of the dumbest images ever put together.

Even during this, they're still constantly changing direction on half the stuff midway through or doing weird stops-and-starts.

Total work. He "tweaked" his knee doing a moonsault landing on his feet, continued working, landed on his feet on a Frogsplash attempt, and the ref stopped the match. This is likely the backdoor that Triple H uses to get in the MITB, which has been rumored. Triple H picking up his 14th WWE Championship at age 50-51 is exactly what this business needs. You're telling me you don't want a rerun of Brock/Rollins, but with Papa H/McIntyre?

They have historical precedence of doing stuff like this, though. Taking someone who usually isn’t in something like this, getting people into them for a bit and then suddenly yanking them out of said situation for a “real star”, thinking you’re going to do more with them and then the next thing you know, they’re gone for several weeks before being used as jobber fodder for the next big star/monster or something.
Like, the only time they didn’t do that which I can remember off the top of my head was when Heath won the tag titles with Rhyno and that was because Heath was too good at being over. And even then, that was pretty quickly tossed aside when “the real stars” needed the tag titles.

And even then, that was pretty quickly tossed aside when “the real stars” needed the tag titles. To be fair, the version of The Wyatt Family with Wyatt, Orton and Harper in it was pretty damn good until they started actively feuding with each other. Got Harper over enough to the point where he should have been a world title contender. American Alpha got hosed by that whole deal, though.

Imagine if this was legit but since they already filmed the MITB match and Crews was involved in every major spot.
How would they explain that?

Maybe Apollo surprises all of us and just fakes an injury Eddy Guerrero style. This whole injury and losing was all just acting before his mastermindful plan to cheat his way into United States championship in the not automatic rematch! Cedric Alexander cold give him tips how to be a surprise partner, ' lose and still keep that winner mentality. There's already probably thousands of people up front in line just waitin' to get back in arenas to see him in live action. Every kid wants to do those Apollo Flips.
