Arkanoid- it's a Breakout clone with "power-ups" and it's addicting.

Was this a very well sold game at some point? I don't know. But I played the crap out of it as child and always laughed how funny the character looks. Old man baby, if ya will. The sequels are both huge improvements, but Adventure Island is still a fun game.

Snake, Rattle And Roll is fun as hell I love that game! A very unique concept and it's executed really well, too.

GI Joe: The Atlantis Factor. Challenging, but action-packed, contains some surprisingly sophisticated strategy elements, and has some incredibly awesome music.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: The Manhattan Project.
Everyone remembers the hard ass original game, the NES version of the original arcade game, and Turtles In Time, but no one ever talks about this one.

Disney's Adventures in The Magic Kingdom is really hard but I like the different types of games in it and I really like the graphics and music (the music is very bouncy and catchy throughout).

Mendel Palace, a crazy action/puzzle game that's prob'ly most notable for being the debut game from developer Game Freak. Its a tough game in parts, but Bucky O'Hare is an enjoyable Konami take on the run and gun platformer: Fantastic music too; easily one of my go to soundtracks to recall what the NES soundchip could do in the right hands. This was a particular favorite as a kid. My late brother once got so annoyed at my now-ex-sister-in-law screwing up a sequence we'd been working on that he taped left/right/up/down directions to the TV. To this day I don't think I've ever completed it. I think I'll dig it out one of these days and see how far I can get.

Two of the ones I thought of have been mentioned
Crystalis is the best RPG on the system. I rather play this than either NES era Zelda. Adventures in the Magic Kingdom is way more fun than it should be. And is a fairly easy game to find cheap.
The Lone Ranger-This is a great adventure game from Konami. Late era NES game so not common. But should run ya too much. Has some great scene where you can play with the zapper.
Willow-A really fun Capcom RPG. Plays a bit like Zelda 1. Shouldn't be too expensive.
Whoop'um-A Jalceo Mega Man like game. You play as a Native American who gets different abiities. Is a slightly tweeked version of a Famicom game based on the legend of the Monkey King.
Maniac Mansion-A suprisingly well done port of this Lucasarts adventure PC game.

I forgot about Willow. That game was better than it had any right to be.
