It's on Amazon Prime so rewatching it. Such a good, fun movie. Great ensemble cast and sharp dialogue and way more effort than a movie based on a board game needed to be.
If it hadn't been made and they announced a Clue movie now the internet would probably shit all over the idea, but man they made it work in 85.

I remember as a kid bugging my brother to let me stay up and watch it on tv one night. The version they played had all three endings. Just a fantastic movie and I loved seeing the actors in other things as I got older. Loved Madeleine Kahn.

Clue had ZERO business being as great as it is. Great case and wonderful writing, so I have ZERO faith in a remake.

The last word about a Clue movie was that Ryan Reynolds was in talks to star in it and that Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese were going to write it and James Bobin was last in talks to direct so not a terrible crew so far. They could have done worse.

Clue had ZERO business being as great as it is. Great case and wonderful writing, so I have ZERO faith in a remake. I think a key to the '85 movie was keeping the cast and setting small and allowing the personality of the insanely talented actors to take center stage. It's honestly a script with some issues here and there, but at times the flaws are overcome by sheer charm, personality, some well-placed "patter" dialogue and good comedic timing by a lot of the fantastic comic/character actors on hand. It's notable in how many theater groups have tried to adapt the movie to the stage; since the setting is confined to a single house, and the cast isn't allowed to get too big, assuming you can construct a working set for the mansion it really is a script and directorial approach that lends itself well to live theater.

The local theater here is supposed to be putting on Clue: The Musical in October. Not sure if it's happening still, but I was definitely planning on going before all this.
