He's fantastic. Cody put him over huge in the presser post-PPV, saying that he was scouted by Tony Khan and QT Marshall, not him, but that he is one of the top 3 people he's ever had a match with, and that they will definitely meet again.
I was fine with Cody winning. Jake being ejected meant Lance was being unfocused, and Cody capitalized. I also get that you don't typically bring in an enforcer-type and then have the heel win, anyway, ex: Ventura in the triple threat of Austin, Foley, and Triple H, where Foley was tapped as the transition winner so that Ventura would raise the face's hand, and due to Austin for one reason or another not wanting to lose the title to Triple H, himself, who beat Foley in short order after.
I am inclined to suspect Cody's time with the belt won't be terribly long, but if Lance or Darby beat him, it'll be all the sweeter for them than had they done it in the tournament.

Yeah man, I agree completely, Great Khali SHOULD still be World Heavyweight Champion There's a huge difference. The Great Khali was a talentless hack who only had a job because he was big and Vince wanted someone of his nationality. Lance Archer is a talented big man that was being built as a monster. You guys have to remember, not everyone who watches AEW watches NJPW so to them he hadn't had a dominant streak. This was his first big AEW match, and he lost clean to a smaller guy. Size doesn't always matter, but it does when you are in the process of building a monster up. Where does talent come into it? Big man should destroy small man. I know what you're driving at and I don't necessarily disagree, but the point you've actually made I don't think makes sense. Talent can overcome size, that's long established. I think if Zack Sabre Jr came in and dominated and then was beaten clean then the same argument could be made. It's not about size it's about presentation - I am dominant on the way to the big match but can't win the first big match. I don't think it's damaging to lose that first match clean, and I don't think it is in wor Lance's case. I think you worry when it becomes a trend.

Lance Archer just bores me. He's not very interesting in the ring, it seems like half his matches are him letting the other guy hit him, and him no-selling it. That might have worked in the eighties, but it just seems unprofessional now.
He tries to come across as methodical, but to be methodical you need some sort of method. When Regal does it, you can there's some thought behind what he's doing. Lance just hits random moves slowly.
I'm glad he lost, because there's no way he can elevate his opponents in a title defence. Cody can at least have good competitive matches with the mid-card dudes this title is (I'm assuming) meant for.
