WWE RELEASES LEAD WRITER by Mike Johnson @ 10:49 PM on 5/29/2020
WWE Creative team member Chris DeJoseph, who returned to the company in December 2019, was released earlier today by World Wrestling Entertainment. The departure was sudden as DeJoseph was at WWE's TV tapings earlier this week and we are told that he had just received a promotion within the last week or so. Before the promotion, he had been working as a Lead Writer and Producer for Friday Night Smackdown. PWInsider.com sources are told it was not due to any of the current COVID-19-related cutbacks within the company.
DeJoseph had previously worked for World Wrestling Entertainment from 2004 through 2010, eventually landing as Senior Writer/Producer for the company while also appearing on camera as Big Dick Johnson. After leaving WWE, DeJoseph worked with MGM to create the El Rey lucha libre series Lucha Underground and served as the Co-Executive Producer of the series, which ran for four seasons. Before his WWE return, DeJoseph worked as the Senior Story Producer for CBS' Big Brother as well as FOX's Hotel Paradise, among other reality TV properties.
DeJoseph had just started with Major League Wrestling as Co-Executive Producer when he received his WWE job offer, leaving his MLW post after just one month. He and WWE had been in discussions before he began his MLW role.
DeJoseph's departure was first reported by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer.

Not sure if any way related to the Jeff Hardy storyline, maybe a reluctance to work on it? Could be anything given Vince though.

So is this why the Smackdown was such an absolute f***ing mess tonight in terms of booking? Because it would totally explain it.
However, this is absolutely a name AEW should look at tapping into for possibly helping production. If he helped produce Lucha Underground, he could probably help with vignettes, and is familiar with a lot of the talent in the company already. Or maybe he'll go back to MLW when everything blows over.
In the end, who knows why he was fired, given the way Vince has released people lately, it's hard to even guess anymore...

The head writer for Smackdown gets canned the very night that Jeff Hardy thing runs. Gotta admit, that timing is incredibly suspicious.

That's really strange and sudden. I don't want to call for anyone to pick him up until we know why he was fired, just since it could be something horrible for all we know, but if it wasn't anything awful, I'd like to see someplace pick him up, since he's done some good work. AEW, sure, maybe, but they don't seem to be at a loss for creative minds right now. Maybe Impact or ROH or something could work with him.

A) He wrote the story and due to controversy and timing he was fired. B) He was let go before, thus the controversial decision to go with the story.

If ever there was a WWE release that needs to be on AEW's radar, this is it.
More than ever, with both companies transitioning towards more elaborate, cinematic matches.

I would be legit surprised if it was anything more than them making him the fall guy because of everyones reactions to the Jeff Hardy storyline even though IMO I do not see the big deal because his troublesome life has been used in story before multiple times....and this wasn't even really in that realm more of a who done it which they presumeably resolved by the end of the episode.
It would explain the strange timing...he was likely already gone but here is the Jeff Hardy story and conveniently here is a writer released at the same time.
Anyways this should all circle back to being really fun around november.

Let's get some more details about why he was let go before we gauge his potential value to any other company. If the reasons are strong enough, he may have a hard time getting high-profile work again.

Don’t be stupid. He used his work phone for non-working matters. Either that or he was the reason a guy with drug charges dropped was hired and then injured, easy to get those two mixed up.

"McMahon was said to be irate over DeJoseph’s “highly unprofessional” behavior."What, did DeJoseph defecate in his pants, then selfishly NOT put the soiled garments on a stick and chase the rest of the writing staff around with them, for everyone's general amusement? [disclaimer: it's possible DeJoseph did something horrible and if so, good riddance, but there's about 20 pages of "What, did he [do this thing Vince did] but in the wrong way?" jokes to be made, that makes "Vince was irate over [someone not Vince's] unprofessional behavior" a head-scratcher]
