Don't get me wrong, he excels in the spots he's put in&with the comedy stuff he'll likely have a job as long as he wants it with the added benefit of having less wear and tear physically especially as he's now approaching 50..
But man, this entire time they could have done so much more with him. He's proven time and again he can play a variety of characters from comedic to threatening, he's always over, and has been an athletic marvel. Plus he seems to be just a quality dude.
I suppose in a lot of ways he's been in the Kane sort of role where they can slot him anywhere and count of him to be reliable etc, but the man has deserved at least one world title run for all the things he can do.
I dunno, I think it'd be cool if they did a story where he decides to take things more serious again, goes on a minor win streak and maybe gets a Rumble win or wins a tourney or something and beats whoever is champion and gets a couple months of a title run.
Maybe have whoever dethrones him also be a face and just have it be respect match that ends with the new champ just having that little bit more than Truth has that night.

Handful of times he's been positioned that way. They've never pulled the trigger, and while I can't say that's wrong I think there's def some value in people looking like legitimate threats.

He was so much fun in 2011 as a major heel
I think he could do it pretty quickly as a face too if they just got behind him. I like him and he seems like a good dude, so I’d be all for it

I’d love for one final main event push before he retires just as a thank you for all his hard work

The time to do this was 2011. He could've actually been WWE Champion.
I don't think I could get behind him as a main eventer now.

He’s so good. He’ll be a face forever because he’s so good at comedy, but his 2011 heel run and his 2002 heel run in TNA were outstanding stuff.

When he came back in 2008 with the R-Truth persona, around the same time I was getting back into watching wrestling, I really thought he had everything to be a main event star. Great look, great shape, immediately got the crowds fired up with the What's Up chants. I was amazed when I learned he was already pushing 40, though it did seem to explain why he was sticking in the midcard; limited shelf life left.
Hell, that turned out to be totally wrong; over a decade later and he's still going strong and barely looks any older. I know the window is closing, but I can still easily imagining him having a Dustin Rhodes-esque late career renaissance where he finally gets the attention he deserves.

Seriously, I like Truth. He has charisma for days, and I always thought he was very underrated for his ring-work. I think the WWE could sell him as a main eventer now, although, it'd be a bit of a stretch given the years he's spent as a joke. Anything can happen in the WWE, and this could be pretty entertaining. If the Otis/Mandy schtick can seep into the main event, so can Truth.

I absolutely acknowledge that he entertains a lot of people, but I have always hated him.
When he was K-Kwik and Road Dogg's partner, he was simply "not Billy Gunn" to me.
When he was in TNA I thought it was ridiculous to waste that amount of energy on a singing and dancing music performance before a fight. Who the f*** sings before a fight? You should be in the frame of mind to f*** someone up, not dance around like a clown. (For the record, I'm not just pinning this on him, I hate it when other wrestlers dance and shit as part of their entrance too)
Since coming back to WWE about a decade or more ago, he's been booked to be a complete idiot. He still does the singing and dancing from TNA, only now he also has imaginary friends, doesn't understand rules of matches, etc. That's not funny to me, it's stupid, How could a former NWA World Champion not understand rules of matches?

Dude has a job for life and I think he's probably good with that. Were there missed opportunities? Absolutely, but even when he was doing the awesome truth stuff, I couldn't take him terribly seriously since he was with the Miz.

I don't necessarily agree, but his post-heel-turn promo was so miraculously and unexpectedly brilliant that it deserves a mention.

Timing never worked out, but Truth has all the tools to be a legit main event player. Couple things change, and he could have very realistically had a lengthy run as one of the top 2-3 guys in WWE

Given his ability and charisma, I’d have loved for him to remain in the main event picture following Capital Punishment, but the focus shifted to Cena/Punk super-quick so he would up pushed to the side.
I never saw him as someone potentially getting a Hogan/Austin level push, and he’s damn good at comedy bits, but he could have been at least a consistent IC, tag or United States champ and a threatening gatekeeper to the main event, sort of in the Hirooki Goto spot. (Though Truth and Yano would easily create magic were they paired up.)
