I'm very curious as to what King could bring to the Jason mythos.

If only we could send him back to the 80s to write it.

A retelling of a slasher film from the killer's perspective would be pretty interesting. Didnt think King cared for the Friday series or slasher films in general though.

So why can't he write one? It would be an interesting read. I bet every time jason is killed his soul is warped to Maine into the body of a teenager as a bit of a reprieve before resurrecting in crystal lake again.

A retelling of a slasher film from the killer's perspective would be pretty interesting. Didnt think King cared for the Friday series or slasher films in general though. His angle sounds like something he could tackle with intrigue - immortal killer, murdered over and over again, with all sorts of room to explain what he's thinking and why and what he sees/thinks his origins anymore and how he evolves thru it all. So why can't he write one? It would be an interesting read. I bet every time jason is killed his soul is warped to Maine into the body of a teenager as a bit of a reprieve before resurrecting in crystal lake again. screenrant.com/friday-13th-movies-legal-rights-lawsuit-explained/A legal dispute between Sean Cunningham, the series' longtime producer, and the original movie's writer has pretty much mucked up anything related to the franchise for the last several years. Plus Stephen King just wanting to come in and writing a book about the character would probably wrangle with the rights owners' plans/visions, in addition to the legal hurdles.

No joke, I used to think he did have something to do with Part VII since it's basically Jason vs. Carrie.

If this was the 70s/80s King it would be a great read. Modern King would be a decent book with a shitty ending.

The Shining [1977] - ended with a big explosion The Stand [1978] - ended with a big explosion Roadwork [1981] - ended with a big explosion Needful Things [1991] - ended with a big explosion And the most recently written King novels I've read: Cell [2006] - ended with a big explosion Under the Dome [2009] - ended with a big explosion I've read a lot of Stephen King. He's had shitty endings his entire career.

I wonder if my Shawshank Redemption sequel about two guys on a small boat in Mexico can get off the ground?

I don't even think a take on the slasher genre like this even needs a franchise character. It sounds fun enough to be able to stand on it's own merit.

He should just make a knock off Jason to get around copyright issues.
The camp known as Diamond Pond is the killing ground for Mason, the killer who wears a baseball catcher's mask.

I assume the film won't tackle the burning question at the heart of the Ft13th lore: how do you explain this kid Jason who was "special" A) survived his drowning and somehow his mother didn't find out and 2) survived in the woods for roughly the next 10 to 20 years.
I always thought Elias Voorhees (the father of Jason that was never in the official film cannon) could have taken in Jason, but then it's like, "How would he hide a child from his wife for 10 to 20 years and why haven't we seen Elias yet?" then again we didn't see his half-sister until the ninth film. I think a lot of fans rather forget Jason Goes to Hell happened though.

Stephen King is filthy rich. If he was passionate enough about this, he could just write it and put it online as fan fiction.
Then all the buzz surrounding Stephen King Jason fan fiction would surely get the attention of New Line Cinema, and boom! Movie! (See even that ended with a big explosion, lol)

Until the rights issues around the original film are solved there will be no new Friday stuff.

(See even that ended with a big explosion, lol) I think he charges like $1 to adapt his book into screenplays. Sting (Steve Borden) does the same with Sting. Charges him a $1 a year for the name, since Sting didn’t think to copyright it or whatever.
