Inspired by my re-watching of USWA, what are people's thoughts on some mid-card stars of that era and territory?
Hollywood John Tatum. I first saw Hollywood in Watts' UWF where he teamed with Eddie Gilbert until Gilbert stole Missy Hyatt from him. Then in USWA, he was cucked again by Bill Dundee making off/out with a new valet named Tessa. Tatum always had go-away heat to me. I didn't find him particularly entertaining or effective; his persona and style reminded me of a Family Tree Michael Hayes and Crybaby Waldo.
"The Missouri Tiger" Jeff Gaylord. A great look but a moveset that would make Hellwig look like Billy Robinson. Also terrible on the mic. Most effective when paired with Skandar Akbar. Most currently infamous as a bank robber.
"Gorgeous" Gary Young. He could get heat but always seemed to be a mid-card stepping stone. Could pass for anyone's drunk Dad at a Little League game.
Jimmy Jack Funk. Had a brief run in WWF as the third Funk brother but really felt like a mediocre babyface.
The more I think about it, Akbar's Devastation Incorporated in the UWF was much, much better than what he had in the USWA.

Edited the title so readers know we're discussing the Texas arm of USWA here, not the main Memphis-area promotion.
The USWA trying to replace World Class really felt like more of the same, to me. And that wasn't a good thing by that point.
