I’m almost 40. I remember watching the Simpsons when it debuted in 1989. I think at the time my parents thought that since it was a cartoon, it was suitable for kids. (Times were different back than. There was no parental TV rating system like TV-G, TV14 etc and nowadays there are a LOT of adult cartoons not suited for kids.) having said that, I have a lot of memories of watching the show when I was a kid. I recorded the episode when Bart was born right off of FOX when it was repeated the first time in 1992. I think I still have that footage. I also recorded the episode where Maggie was born in 1994 (syndicated version with no commercials, although I did record a few seconds of a Sega 32x ad)
Here are some quotes that I got a kick out of when I was a kid.
Bart & Lisa: “Will you take me to Mount Splashmore?” Homer: “No.” These two lines were repeated several times with each time, all the characters were in a different room. One time, Bart & Lisa skied Homer the same question while he was SHOWERING.
Homer: My three Rs are: Reading TV Guide, wRiting to TV Guide and Renewing TV Guide.
There was the episode when the characters were at Krustyland I think. Marge is at a clothing shop. Homer & Bart apparently did something wrong. Man (over PA): “Attention Mrs. Marge Simpson, we have jailed your son Bart Simpson.” Woman: “I would hate to be that sons Mom.” Man (over PA): “Attention Mrs. Marge Simpson, we have also captured your older, balder, fatter son.”
There was a 2005 episode where Homer Simpson somehow survived after nearly suffocating when a garage door fell on him. During that same episode, he sprayed spider poison in his eyes only for it to sting. Homer: “Spider poison is people poison.”
I may have more. Does anyone have any more memories?

The Butterfinger ads were the first time I saw them. Then the Ullman shorts (which we'd call "The Butterfinger Commercial Show")

This was a real album for all you youngins that are too young to know For a long time, I thought Homer was singing “if it wasn’t for Matlock, I wouldn’t have no luck at all” on his version of Born Under a Bad Sign. And my best friend and I always cracked up over Mr. Burns saying “look at all those BOOBS.” We were eight or nine when the album came out, so I don’t think we understood that he was using a synonym for stupid people. We probably thought he was singing about, y’know, the other kind. You know the Treehouse of Horror episode in which Burns tries to put Homer’s brain in a robot? When they showed that “next time, on The Simpsons” clip,” I truly thought it was a tease for a new episode. When I first saw it, I didn’t realize that the Halloween specials were in their own universe and not connected to the regular show.

Can’t say when I realized it was a joke.

I remember recording episodes of the Simpsons from syndication. Episodes I definitely remember recording were "Dancing Homer" and The one where Homer has to give up beer. I think I had a few other episodes but those are the ones I remember recording.

The Truckasaurus episode where Bart wants to become a stuntman and Homer jumps instead of him. The episode not only had the ‘Do the Bartman’ video at the end, but had the whole school talking about it the next day.
One of my favourite episodes is where Homer reunites with his brother Herb for a second time and helps him regain his fortune. It’s a genuinely sweet moment when they reconcile, and made me realise that the Simpsons was more than a ‘kids show’.

I remember watching the first airing in Canada on a Friday night. It was “Bart the Genius”. I was nine and it was a cartoon so I kept watching after I watched American Gladiators and didn’t bother changing the channel after it was done. The rest is history.

I remember going to the drive-in theater and before the trailers started, they showed some shorts from the Tracey Ullman Show. I also remember being intrigued that a cartoon show was shown at night. I have been a fan ever since I was a toddler. Hell, my mom even bought me the Simpsons Sing the Blues cassette tape.

I remember when the show first ran it's debut season. I especially remember the insane popularity of the Simpsons in the early 90s. Like , it's hard to describe it to people who weren't there. The Simpsons were over like mad.

I remember a kid in elementary school had on a, "I'm Bart Simpson. Who the hell are you?" T-shirt, and the teacher made them put a piece of tape over "hell." lol
I also remember being excited to get all the collectible Burger King toys from the camping episode.

I remember the CBC airing reruns of classic Simpsonses for a while from the 90s to 2009 or so. That’s where I watched and taped them most often. CBC was supposed to be 100% Canadian programs but the Simpsons got through, I think because of Canadian writers? Not really sure why it was the only exception for a while.

I remember when the first episode aired. The next day everybody in my 2nd grade class was singing “Jingle Bells, Batman Smells”.

I remember it being a big deal being one of the kids allowed to watch it. Some decent cred when you’re 7 back then. Back then, I caught it when I happened to, which wasn’t often. Like everything else.
When I was 14, I made the decision to start taping them. I think I amassed about 18 VHS full of them. I’d watch over and over and over. Now I’m 37 and have the DVDs and Disney+ and watch them over and over and over.
I said when I was 14 or so, I wish they had a channel that nothing but the Simpsons. Another kid said I would get sick of it. I haven’t yet. Not even close. I put a DVD on to sleep every night.
Aside from friends, family and my dog, it’s my favorite thing in the world.

CONTRABAND!!! My brother had the Bartman shirt, I had the Underachiever and Proud of It shirt. Young rebels. I remember seeing a ton of the bootleg Black Bart shirts that summer as well.
