I’ve seen posts like this before, and I’ve commented in them, but I just can’t take it anymore. The extravagant entrances, the over the top Promos, the Instagram posts with expensive cigars, the stupid tattoo of his “brand” in his neck. Having a “team” around him at all times that has to be called “nightmare family” with their stupid matching jackets. Randomly having Arn Anderson as a “coach” and making arn wear that stupid jacket. The press conference tonight, the stupid guy holding that stupid title in the air. The press conference posing...the need for every match to be this huge story driven graphic novel, where Cody is the prince. His stupid facial expressions...
I know I’m rambling and I’am sorry but I just can’t deal with seeing Cody, or see his “nightmare” family. Does anyone every rememeber The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are also superstars? That they are also EVP’s? Nahhh it’s all about Cody.
Please tell me I’am not the only one who’s fed up with it. It’s like everything is to feed Cody’s ego and it makes watching AEW difficult for me.

I like Cody and he’s one of the reasons I started watching AEW. He has a huge star eura about him, which I can dig.

Have you considered just not watching Cody segments though? I feel like when you're at the point of "the stupid guy holding the stupid title in the air" you really need to take a step back.

Yeah, I'm cool with him. Dude took a lot of crap for putting up that "can never challenge for the world title" stipulation and thought he should have won against Jericho. Before all this he had some of the biggest pops and casual fans love him. This isn't Jarrett where NO ONE wanted to see him main eventing.

I agree with the OP. I tune out of cody stuff or play on my phone. He's too over the top. I found that promo he did the dynamite after he won the TNT title to be a poor take on one of his father's promos. The difference being he doesn't have the authenticity in my opinion.

He's okay
He has been able to not cross the line where you can clearly see it is ego for him. Don't get me wrong, he does shit I don't like and has those Jarrett/HHH tendencies but it isn't enough to have me change the channel on him. He's still great but my problem with Cody has been for a while he can sell me on a match but watching it is a diff story which means i'm not 100% into the fighting champ gimmick but it is a smart gimmick for him because he's over and fans love him

Whenever he’s on it’s a channel changer. I feel bad for Dustin...he’s nothing more than a background now wearing his brothers jacket. Hell even his tag team the “natural nightmares” has to somehow be connected to Cody and he’s not even involved in the team. Part of it to is seeing all his social media posts. I’m not sure if maybe he’s has more power than the Bucks or Kenny, but Cody presents himself as the Voice of AEW and his baby

Cody's whole deal is just gonna be better when he goes heel, because then the braggadociousness is going to make more sense. Just a matter of when.

Yea, as good as Cody is as a face he's even better as a heel I think he is really disingenuous as a face with the crying and heaping praise on everything but he's going to be super money as that slimeball heel who you want to see get punched

I enjoy Cody. I like his "old school" style he brings to AEW and doesn't try to make every single thing a comedy act.

As I said I feel he is a bit disingenuous as a face and it feels self serving to an extent but in saying that, the fans love it and he has them eating out his hands. It works He is the defacto face of AEW tho. Kenny and The Bucks while are top tier wrestling names, Cody has a legacy to fall back on. He was in WWE, everyone knows his famous father and his brother has been around forever. I wouldn't say it gives him more power but it probably gives his voice a little more say

Much like I said in another thread about how Archer and Cage have gotten this dated territory booking that is either a breath of fresh air or an eyeroll-worthy throwback depending on how you look at it - Cody's whole everything is either a huge positive or a huge negative, because he's so ostentatiously different.
He does all these angles that are built around his network of relationships, big bloody grudges, going through hellacious challenges, getting long old school promos. These aren't bad things per se, and he does things this way because he is very suited to it. While he has occasional missteps with the entourage, he does have actual ideas for how to build a match involving a face manager or a valet; he has angles where his brother, his wife, his friends have played important roles that added to the story. Cody knows what his strengths are, and he plays to them, and the result is some good angles and good matches.
But...it all plays very weirdly when he is the only person on the entire show who has all of...that. There does seem to be some effort to helping the rest of the roster start accruing the sorts of everything that Cody has to play with, but for now, his Very Extra New Old School Epic Saga of Cody is jarring even when it is good.

Agreed. That was an earned moment. Everything built up to that segment from MJF being a dick, letting Wardlow get his licks in, Brandi coming out and Cody lasting all through the lashes only to get whipped in the face That's good TV. It served a purpose and made you want to see Cody get his hands on MJF. The stuff with Archer was hit and miss because they made that very personal when the feud didn't call for it. Cody can't lean on the crutch of personal feuds for everything when he gets into feuds. At least right now it is him being the fighting babyface champ without turning it into a personal story

I dig Cody but I’ve started kinda checking out of his stuff. He’s the only person that’s been consistently featured(promo time almost every show, high profile matches, vignettes etc) since AEW started, that’s crazy to think about.

I’m assuming he’s turning heel soon. Have him talk about how much this title means to him and he wants to be the fighting Champion (Keep ramming that point home) only for him to drop it to Orange Cassidy or Jungle Boy shortly after the Hager match and then snap on him after the match.

Until AEW I didn't see shit in Cody except as a midcarder.
I am also inherently suspicious of anybody booking themselves.
However I think Cody in AEW is a main event talent and a very unselfish one at that. He loses almost all his big matches and can never be champion. His entrances are pretty extravagant but it's not like fans are starting to turn on him.
While I do get why you are finding it so annoying, I simply don't share the opinion.
